In short: Great run, terrible value! In full: Beautiful run. Not one for a PB, but more for enjoying the challenge of the hills and the scenery. Would be better if it didn't start with the hill immediately, but the 2nd and 3rd time weren't so bad! However FAR too expensive. Would only do it again if the price came down. Also well organised with lovely people! Date of review: September 25, 2011
In short: my second running of this event this year, the route was the same- steep hills then 3 laps of the park In full: my second running of this event this year, the route was the same- steep hills then 3 laps of the park, the hills are challenging but worth it, overall a little too expensive- for my first race i got a nice crystal medal -- this time a shopping bag !!! In short: brutal !!!!! the steep hill was run 3 times ,the views were beautiful and the fallow deer a welcome addiction In full: the run was over a 3 lap course with a steep hill at the beginning- the organisers planned the route well , the medal was a crystal momento the views supereb the free entry to the park a good idea just a little too expensive Date of review: July 12, 2011
In short: A most challenging 10k but the scenery took much of the pain away! In full: The hill x 3 was a test for all abilities but a great sense of achievement come the end. Doubtful that anyone could ever run a PB on this course but as training for other less demanding 10k's this is the one! My Garmin measured course about 120m less than 10k but the hills made up for that. Quite expensive for the race itself, up to £20 on the day. On the other hand for those spending the day 'free' at Dyrham Park it was probably good value. Though the momento was superb I wonder whether a medal and some other goodies may have proved a better deal. For those of us entering the remaining 2 races I hope the goody bag will be different next time as I'm not too keen on collecting 'same as' momentos. Finally, I heard a few grumblings about the casualness and lack of punctuality of start. For runners who time their warm ups this was a little frustrating. All in all a well organised event and I'm looking forward to the next one. In short: Beautiful grounds but a killer of a hill x 3 In full: Set in the really stunning grounds of Dyrham Park, the scenery was stunning and I even spotted a few deer roaming around. It was a great event to bring my husband and 2 children along to as they got into the park for free and could wander round the house & grounds whilst I ran & meet me at varous ponts to cheer me on. Plus it was lovely to have a picnic in the grounds afterwards.
The race seemed well organised & everyone was friendly and helpful, although could have done with a loud speaker on the start line to hear what the organisers were saying. But everything was well laid out & signposted.
The only problem I had was the killer hill at the start which had to be tackled 3 times as it was a 3 lap course. I didnt realise the climb be so steep and it didnt do much for overall time.
Also the goody bag was a bit disapointing a really nice crystal trophy, a sachet of sport drink mix and nothing else. But overall a nice scenic race and family day out.
