In short: Top marks all round for this race! In full: I ran this race as a training run for Chicago which is looming in a few short weeks. I entered very last minute and the organisers couldn't have been more helpful and communicative - really going above and beyond.
This has been described as a hilly course which is maybe a touch dramatic - there are only really 2 or 3 tough hills (admittedly with a bit of a beast at mile 9!!), and I echo what previous reviewers have said - they are short enough not to knock too much stuffing out of you! I'd describe it as an undulating course for the most part with lots of flat stretches in the first half.
A combination of beautiful scenery, tip-top organisation, and encouraging friendly marshals made for a great race experience - all that for 11 bob, what a bargain! And who would have thought 4 jelly babies at mile 11 would have given me such a lease of life?!! Plus I'd like to thank a lady called Tracy, a member of South Cheshire I think, who kept me going on the inclines! Good luck in Chester and Snowdon - you're going to smash them :-)
A big high five to all involved in making it such a great event - keep up the good work. I'll definitely be back for more! Date of review: September 8, 2014
In short: Great pre-marathon long race over scenic undulating course In full: Great pre-marathon long race over scenic undulating course, great support from marshals, good race hq at sport centre with free cakes, massage, etc. And for the entry fee, a nice t-shirt and gingerbread man!! In full: I thought this was a fantastic race to take part in. A well organised event, with a clearly marked route and with plenty of friendly race marshalls directing and motivating the runners. The route is undulating with a couple of climbs but each one not too long and so a challenging but accessible run. For the cost, I thought this was an absolute bargain. A race definitely organised by runners for runners. Oh, and the sweets were a bit of a godsend. Date of review: September 7, 2014
In short: Brilliant Race In full: Great organisation. Second time I've done this race and travelled about 85 miles to get there. Definitely great marshalls, especially the lady between 17-18 miles whos words spurred me onto a PB (my first in 6 years). The club should be proud of their great race. In short: Great marathon prep but excellent stand alone race as well In full: The whole experience was excellent. Great HQ with decent parking, plenty of loos and hot showers for afterwards. Really great supportive marshals. Clear mile markers. Plenty of water stops with bonus jelly babies. Lovely route with enough ups and downs to keep it interesting. Easy to get into decent rythym. Great tshirt. Date of review: September 18, 2013
In short: Great race well worth doing. In full: This is a great well organised and marshalled race with excellant facilities, particularly liked the free web photos from Brian at www.racephotos.org.uk Date of review: September 18, 2013
In short: Well organised, friendly and challenging In full: This was an excellent race - very well organised, easy parking and good race HQ, challenging route and some of the friendliest marshals around. All the marshals were great, but I echo the comments made earlier about the lady at mile 18 - so enthusiastic and vocal, she must have been more knackered that night than any of the runners. South Cheshire could teach a number of the for-profit race organisers a thing or two about how to put on a great event at a very fair price. Date of review: September 17, 2013
In short: Great run ! In full: Last Sunday I run South Cheshire 20 miler near Crewe. In a month I run a marathon in Poznan ( POLAND ) and South Cheshire 20 mile course was a great test of my current form. I passed that test. Running with pain of right foot I had time 2 hours and 45 minutes. After the race I am very happy, satisfied and full of praise for the South Cheshire Harriers. The route was well prepared and perfect supervised by marshals. I'd like to mention a wonderful lady marshalling at 18 mile. She was so enthusiastic and was a great mixture of cheer lady with a football fan when she was supporting me with her charming shout. Every runner with such support can beat his own PB. Weather conditions were brilliant. Next year I will take part in that competition again and started counting days to that event. Date of review: September 16, 2013
