In short: Varied, tricky route on this course. In full: A small scale, low key event organised by a village primary school's PTA. Clearly my Garmin is out of cal as it did not measure it as far as 11 kilometres, although it was certainly longer than 10k - however, as it was a small scale event I'm suprised by the level of angst amongst the reviewers.
Friendly set up, well marshalled route (and the marshals were all happy as far as I could tell)with police closing off Tots Lane (the lane prior to the final climb back into the village)
It was only a few hundred yards but the run through the bluebell wood was very nice indeed. Date of review: May 15, 2012

In short: Challenging but quite scenic route In full: A mix of road and trail, two different loops - first mile not very peaceful as next to the M11 but later on scenic with a pretty bluebell wood. One pretty tough hill that you ran up twice. An enjoyable race, thanks Birchanger PTA!

In short: Nearly 7 miles long, should not be advertised as 10K! In full: First time for this event but there is not much excuse in this day and age for organising a 10K that is actually over 11K. It would be fair enough to use that course, just a) don't tell people it's a 10k and b) have km markers and put a clock next to the 10k point so at least people know when they have done it. It didn't bother me much as I had a garmin and knew at half way it was long but I spoke to several beginners at the end who were devastated about how slow their time was - and cheered up no end when I told them it was 11K! The actual course was pleasant enough and bacon butties at the end was good. Nice medal and a bottle of water too. Date of review: May 16, 2011

In short: Actually 11k, hard work In full: Although the race was 11k, the support received as you came through the village to start lap 2 & at the end was great. The field was hard work and the hill back into the village towards the end of the lap was hard work. It's my local event so good to see it start well but it would be nice if the route was more accurate. Date of review: May 9, 2011

In short: Teething troubles for this new race In full: Very friendly, good cheerful compering and a nice atmosphere. A double circuit of a road loop, with a nice bit of downhill trail and then a nasty hack around the edge of a field (long damp grass and tractor tyre rutting). A steep hill middle and end (same hill) and then a long slow hill right at the end and back into the school grounds. Plenty of room to move as mostly quiet roads, but the field was tricky for overtaking. Not PB material as actually 11.08k which was a bit of a surprise. Enthusiastic organisers and if this even is held again I'm sure that the little problems will be ironed out. If the event gets any bigger more toilets will be essential as only 2 for 102 runners. Some lovely marshalls and some completely disinterested ones. Thank you to those who cheered us on! Date of review: May 9, 2011

In short: A 10K that is actually 11K plus! In full: Nice friendly 10K pleasant surroundings but no PB here as it was actually 11K + & the rutted field section was one to test your ankle ligaments to the full! Date of review: May 8, 2011
