In short: Nice run but not most welcoming In full: Been to a few events now but first by Runners World/Rat Race and was expecting special.Got OK but not very welcoming at registration - need special request for chip ties! Not even cutters on hand at finish.Course and basic organisation OK. In short: Tough hills but top trails and scenery - just what you want for a trail run In full: My first off-road event so didn't really know what to expect. Due to recent wet weather, if you were not in trail shoes, then the boggy bits would have claimed your "normal" running shoes (I saw 2 victims...!!) Although the hilly bits were tough going, you could look forward to the downhill bits too! The very last grassy hill before the finish really zapped your legs right before the end (thanks for that!) but overall this is a very slick event that merits another go next year! Go for the early bird discount if you are put off by the price tag - it's well worth it when you finish the course!! Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: A hot day In full: Everyone in the Event Village seemed helpful. Race Marshals were smiley and encouraging. Lack of supporters around the course made it quite lonely running at times and only two water stations on the course on what turned out to be a very hot day. Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: Hot but great scenery In full: First time doing a trail race and really enjoyed it, even though it was hard work in the heat.
Pros - Well organised and plenty of parking. - Small number of people in each wave (not sure what the max. capacity was for each wave) so quickly into running stride. - Fantastic scenery running through the forest. - Some shade from the heat. - Good marshals. - Packed goody bag.
Cons - Who put that hill at the end?!? - Small waves meant few runners were visible as you ran round the course, which may not appeal to everyone.
Would I recommend it? At the Early Bird price, definitely.
Would I do it again? Roll on 2015... Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: More races should be like this In full: Loved the scenery, loved the terrain, loved the tough but achievable challenge. I run a lot of road races and although the crowds are great etc etc at those events, I just loved being set free in the forest. I especially enjoyed it when it got a bit wet and muddy. This is what trail running is all about. It was hot but the trees helped shield from the sun and the start time was sensibly early. Also the marshals were very good. The only gripe I have is that the official time seems to be the race time rather than the chip time. I started at the back and my watch had me running two minutes quicker than what it said on the website. Usually events have both a 'race time' and a 'chip time' but not here. Has anyone else noticed this? If you aren't going to publish chip times then why have chips? Date of review: June 9, 2014
In short: tough on theb legs In full: This is a tough course which is unevan under foot. The course is dotted with marshals but other then that there is no one to cheer you on. Ths is the wielerness. The race is well organised and groups are set off at 15 min gaps depending on your peceived finishing time. Food (burgers, hotdogs)are avaiable on site as well as entertainment for your family, should you bring any. The goodie bag is good and you get a good medal. t-shirt is provided before the race for those that ordered. I ran on a dry day but heaven fordid 2014+ runners it rains on you as i could imagine it could turn quite sticky Date of review: July 31, 2013
