In short: My first organised event, pricey but well organised and good intro to running
In full: not sure what the parking was like, but the train station was only a short walk away from the start. route well organised though spectator mobility looked dire, particularly at the start and finish.
It was my first proper event and I was very pleased with the whole thing. I had no idea whast pace i was expecting, so opted to go for an hour. I did it in just over 50 minutes but could have beaten that quite easily if it wasn't for the difficulty in overtaking. choose your starting group wisely!
Bit pricey but a good day, nice pretty medal and a brill goody bag. warm down afterwards with a walk to the salisbury by oxford road and a few scoops...

In short: I know it's a 'mass' event, but I found it to be dull scenery and very expensive

In full: Went into this race hoping for a new PB and was advised not to try for it due to the crowds. As it happened I just sneaked one by eight seconds (45:56).

This race is not a cheap thrill by any means, but money alone doesn't explain the thrill of being in the middle with the crowds just cheering and roaring everyone on. That is priceless and the best bit.

The course is very flat and the biggest problem was weaving. I was probably a problem for the good club runners even though I got around in under 46 minutes so if you overtook a shortish guy in a blue T-shirt and white shorts in the orange wave, then apologies!

This is less of a run and more of an event with the City Games and the Salford Swim. I'd urge everyone to do this run at least once. I'll see you at the line next year, hopefully!

In short: Overpriced, uninspiring and busy for most but good for total beginners
In full: Very expensive for a 10km race that offers nothing in the way of scenery, obstacles or any technical t shirt.

Crowds are great and for a total beginner this gives a sense of occasion. However, it's busy and congested with many people putting times in way faster than they can run cluttering up the wrong wave.

Save your pennies as the entry fee for this one could enter you at least 5 small, quirky non corportae races with more character.

In short: Good 10k run around the streets of Manchester
In full: I was a first time participant in this event and was happy with the overall organisation and the race itself. I managed to do a PB, so was also very pleased with that. Good support all around the course. Only one on-course water station - could do with a sports drink station also.

In short: Great race, although busy - people need to be honest when submitting times for their waves. That gripe aside it is always a good day, crowds are ace - will be back in 2012

In short: This is one of my farourite races on the racing calender.
In full: I have raced the Manchester 10K for the last 3 years in a row and I will also be on the start-line for 2012. It's one of my favourite races of the year. The crowds are great and there is a great mix of serious athletes, good club runners, beginners and those just having fun, which makes it a great event for spectators as well as the runners. It's also a good course with PB potential (if it's not too windy!)The combination of the 10K the Manchester City games and the Salford swim makes it a great weekend of sport and the city and it's people really come alive.

In short: Good event, just a shame about the pre-planning!
In full: The race itself is very well organised and is fantastic for non-runners as a first. I agree with those who previously mentioned the slower runners walking after 500yds etc. I was in the white wave and passed several people who were running at a 1hr plus pace or walking soon after i started (please be true to yourself and start further back). My only other gripe was around the race pack's, mine finally turned up a day after the event so I had to go into Manchester to collect a new one and still haven't received any apology. The least that the organisers could do would be to email out to those effected saying sorry!
