In short: Once you done one you will definitely come back for more In full: Admittedly not a race for a PB but the scenery and the organisation 2nd to none, hard to pick a fault with this race but so to prove that no race is absolutely perfect I would say, that I am hoping for the 5th edition they will change the medal(lol) even my daughters noticed that I have 3 medals exactly the same. Other than that, consider yourself luck if you get a place on the 2015 race. Date of review: May 24, 2014
In short: Running Round Richmond In The Sun Was Fun! In full: One of the nicest marathons I have done and this was my second time and although my time was slower this year from last I loved the sun. The park was very scenic and the supporters willing us on both uplifting and appreciated especially the last 7 mile loop. The marshalls were all fantastic and loved the iceman just shame he melted before my last loop round! A few more flags and pointers round the course would be great but I didn't actually go awry. A really huge effort from Gareth and his team with some great little touches. So thank you to all fellow runners, marshalls and supporters and Gareth for a great day out and sure as heck made my birthday special! Date of review: May 22, 2014
In short: The Park is inspiring to run in, good organisation, brilliant marshalls, but hilly and hot on the day ... In full: I've run in Richmond Park quite a lot including a half marathon event recently and it's always a pleasure though the perimeter path is hilly and as others have said has to be shared with cyclists, walkers and other users - even wild deer, a herd of which crossed the road in front of me as I ran almost forcing me to stop and wait. For me however all this adds to the delight anddistinction of the location. This is not a day for PBs especially when it was hot as it was but there is a lot of tree shade along the route and a little cooling breeze, so for the most part for me it was all pleasure until sometime in the last lap when I had to dig in and just keep going with the hills beginning to take a toll. A very well organised event to enjoy with very friendly and encouraging stewards and water station helpers. Couldn't be better from that point of view. I agree with the guy who says a couple more direction markers might help at key points but that's it. Keep up the good work guys. I think from comments I overheard that walkers and other users of the park enjoyed having the event going on around them and found it inspiring. Very generous goodie bag - t shirt, mug and medal. How do they do that? Date of review: May 20, 2014
In short: Beautiful scenery, tight organisation, great goodie bag In full: This was a very well-organised race - kudos to the organisers. One of the best goodie bags I've seen - quality T shirt and mug, plus a medal for all finishers and a free massage at the end! Friendly atmosphere too. The park trails are lovely to run on, if you can get past the armies of walkers and cyclists out on a Sunday. Only downsides were the sweltering heat, and the crowds in the park (sometimes it was hard to tell who was in the race and who was just out for a run). But neither of these things were the fault of the organisers. Well-stocked water stations and the marshals did a fantastic job - thanks! Date of review: May 20, 2014
In short: Wonderful runners , wonderful crowd and support , a wonderful world ! In full: Brilliant event to organise and run and given the feedback we want to make the event even better in 2015, we like to think as how would runners like to not their marathon and so every year we try to improve and build up the whole Richmond Park Marathon experience, because there really is nowhere on a earth like our event ! In short: Ran like Clockwork in a beautiful location In full: A lovely race with the weather this year being very very hot it was also challenging. Horses, hundreds of dear, the scenery is magnificent and the stewarding / aid stations were some of the best most positive I have ever experienced.
The first aid station looked like a full blown medical faciclity with St Johns medcis riding around the course (7 mile circuit) on MTBs, thankfully I didn't need them!!
After being coaxed into this race at the Knacker Cracker I can't recommend this race highly enough. Great value for money
In short: Hot and hilly In full: Great trail race with excellent marshalling. Richmond Park gets busy on a weekend with traffic, cyclists, walkers etc. and the marshalls did a superb job of controlling traffic at road crossings and roundabouts, vital really when you get to the last tired lap and it's hard to keep your wits about you. Well done! The temp this year was over 20C which made it quite tough on top of the hill repeats. I'd hoped for a London GFA time of 3:15 which rapidly went down the tubes, and slogged home around 3:39. Really enjoyed the day, spectators were enthusastic, medical support was always on hand if needed, and a free massage at the end. Plus the pre-race PA music was a rocking choice of 80's and 90's classics. What more could you want? I'd certainly come back, only hoping it's cooler next year. Date of review: May 19, 2014
