In short: The scenery makes up for the hills In full: A hilly first 8.5 miles with the worst at about mile 3 and mile 6.5. After the top of that second one it's pretty much all downhill or flat running. The scenery is stunningly beautiful.
Impeccably organised with plenty of friendly marshals, water and a friendly announcer at the end welcoming every runner home by name. Date of review: September 16, 2013
In short: A challenging half marathon. The course takes you through some beautiful parts of the Peak District. Marshalls are excellent. Crowd support on the course is a bit sparse but great at the finish. Date of review: September 15, 2013
In short: Brilliant organisation, brilliant course, overall...brilliant In full: Would like to send a big thank you to everyone involved in making this event happen every year. It is a lovely course with friendly & encouraging marshalls, never a PB course with killer hills but a lovely Sunday morning run. Everyone should do at least once...but you will come back again. In short: Now firmly my favourite half marathon In full: What a race! What hills! What scenery! Without doubt a real gem of an event that everyone should do at least once in their lives! Date of review: September 19, 2012
In short: Challenging Half Marathon with some beautiful scenery. In full: There were a couple of real killer hills. One at about 2.5 miles where the incline lasted for approx 2 miles (steeoer in parts) but then at about 7 miles (for 1 mile) it was almost quicker to walk up it (well for me anyway). The rest was then plenty of downhill/undulating. With that said, this is definitely NOT one to get your PB on!
Plenty of water and sponge stations and the organisation in general was excellent. Marshalls kept the roads closed where needed. Started bang on time and a great welcome at the finish.
Although the scenery was beautiful in parts (at the top of the hills), it was generally down counrty lanes that were shadowed by trees and hedges so you didn't get to see much. Being country lanes, there also wasn't really a crowd until you reached the very end - so it was more like a training run. Date of review: September 17, 2012
In short: An excellent challenging half marathon. A course with a couple of big hills in the first half after which it is more undulating. The marshalls, the people manning the drinks stations and spectators were very supportive. Date of review: September 16, 2012
In short: A couple of steep hills ofset by lots of flat and downhill. In full: 2 real killers climbs at 3 and 7 miles but otherwise good running, great marshells and plenty of water/ sponge stations. I will definately do this one again. Date of review: September 16, 2012
