In short: Still the best around! In full: 2015 was my 5th year doing this event but it still never gets old. An wonderfully enjoyable event that is the highlight of my running calendar each year. The scenery along with the leg busting course will keep you coming back for more, year after year. Date of review: January 11, 2016
In short: Not a long slog. In full: Ran the 7 mile race, quite hilly but downhill at the end so not a long slog. well organised, nice marshals , will run again in 2016...... Date of review: November 9, 2015
In short: A proper hilly run! In full: Second time at Marlow Half. Great course and better now the road section at Hambledon is gone, but start was a bit long winded and missed getting a T-shirt this year. Still wear my previous one. Will be back. Date of review: November 7, 2015
In short: Challenging but very scenic and very friendly In full: My first hilly half marathon and I really enjoyed it - less worrying about the miles, more about the hills! Date of review: November 6, 2015
In short: Excellent race but not for the faint hearted In full: First time doing Marlow HM. Minor point but the bag drop could have been better. I know all races could do with more loo's but Marlow was cutting it fine. Besides these minor points its an excellent race, lovely views and encouraging marshalls. The hills were tough but that's why we run Marlow. Thanks Striders for a great race. Date of review: November 6, 2015
In short: Very Hilly In full: Wow! I did the Marlow 7 and my god it was a good choice! Really enjoyed this as my first time running 7 miles(and also a tad hungover!) Being allowed earphones was a massive bonus (tip - take one earphone out the last two miles to hear marshal instructions and the wonderful crowds! I will be back! Date of review: November 4, 2015
In short: A super-scenic, challenging run. In full: One of my favourite half marathons for the scenery, really friendly marshalls and challenging hills. The new HQ seemed fairly chaotic as far as the bag drop was concerned, and it was a shame that the showers in the ladies were all not working at all (having specifically asked if there were showers this was very frustrating). However, Marlow Striders always put on a great race that is always friendly, well supported and a pleasure to run. Date of review: November 2, 2015
In short: Not sure about new course and some race HQ teething problems but great overall In full: My 6th marlow half marathon and generally my favourite race of the year. Some work needed to make bag drop better next year (downstairs room woefully under sized). The course has been revised. Avoiding the Hambledon road makes the route quieter (good) and even more scenic (good) but the 2 big hills are now much easier and the course has lost about 100m of elevation I think (not so good if you are a masochist). Also the new finish is a bit fiddly and urban and not as much fun as old. On balance I prefer the onld route. Still wonderfully marshalled though and I will be back.. thank you to all Date of review: November 2, 2015
In short: Hilly - but nowhere as hilly as the very scary profile picture suggests In full: great marshals - very encouraging the scenery that was visible through the fog was beautiful & on a clear day it would have been a very pretty course needs more portaloos at the start thank you Marlow Stridders for a great day Date of review: November 2, 2015
In short: Most hilly road HM I've done...perhaps In full: First time for on this one. Wow, was it hilly. Tough climbs start after quarter mile and go on and on! You can't get any joy from the downhills as they are too darned steep! The first half of this half is incredibly challenging; I ran the notoriously hilly Basingstoke half a few weeks ago but Marlow puts that course to flat shame! Fortunately the second half of the course is a bit kinder. I'm not complaining - I loved it but it's hard. Race HQ all seemed good to me. I entered on the day with no issues. Start was quite narrow and a bit slow but to be honest with those impending hills who really cares? Course is rural and would be very scenic if not for the fog on the day. Support therefore sparse but enthusiastic. Numerous supportive marshals along the entire route. Happy to receive my spot prize at the end and rest my legs. Will be back next year to improve on my dreadful time by conserving some energy for the second half.
Good work Marlow Striders. Thanks.
(PS to the marshal with the stop/go sign who took umbrage when I said "thank you Mr Lollipop man", I'm sorry as it was supposed to be light-hearted and no offence intended) Date of review: November 2, 2015
