In short: A quick course with definate PB potential
In full: I did this course last year and it's pretty quick, there is a hill to climb after a mile or so but generally it's stretch your legs stuff. The course isn't much to look at but then I probably don't take in the scenery much when I'm grinding out the miles. A decent level of support along the way for one of the bigger races locally. The organisers, to their credit, tried to position runners according to their finish times but as usual this ignored by many which means quite a bit of weaving in and out over the first mile. My big moan is the flags which appeared to be signalling the finish only to panic when I got there after a sprint and realise it wasn't. The finish wasn't clear at all and I ended up stumbling slowly over the line as I was wiped out of energy. Didn't enjoy that bit but will probably be back next year.

In short: Slick organisation and a lighting fast course
In full: That's the first time I've done this race, and I can't wait to do it again!
Not the most scenic of races, but if you're after a quick 10K, there's not too much time to spare looking around - it's all about speed.
The organisation was great, although it was hard work getting out of the Leisure Centre car park afterwards. Well marshaled, all the water you could need both during and after, and a really good looking T-shirt as well.

In short: Best 10k in the south
In full: This is a road race, the scenery doesn't matter. It's fast, it's flat, it works. Eastleigh is a small town that puts on a big race and should be applauded for that. Yes a medal would be better, but its only a 10k so you can't really moan. 2000 runners finished this years in cold conditions, the support was good, marshals were well organised and friendly what more can you ask for? Any one moaning really needs to think about what they enter races for.

In short: nice legs; shame about the face
In full: fast and flat course so definite PB potential but nothing much to look at. That said, I tend to ignore the surroundings so the urban surroundings didn't worry me. Cake at the end was a nice touch but would MUCH rather have a medal to hang on my wall than a poly-cotton T shirt (which I can't even wear for running, if I value my nipples). Organisation was good and the MC at the start did a decent job of keeping us smiling in the Arctic temperature before the start.

In short: Back again!
In full: This is my local race so do it every year even though there's many reasons I dislike it!
The main pro - it is fast! One tiny hill (more an incline) and that's it. That said there seemed to be a lot more congestion this year as I spent the first 2k trying to safely weave round people who'd started a bit too far up the field (and I'm pretty slow myself so this must be really annoying for proper speedsters!) I did still manage to take 2.5mins off my PB though so that shows you how fast the course is!

Cake/water/banana at the end was great but I still feel the T shirt is a bit of a waste - and picking it up before the race is a pain! I'd much prefer a medal or tech shirt instead. Commentator did a good job trying to encourage people into the end....especially helpeful as coming into the park I thought the 2 flags were the finish but it was actually about 50m further on (makes a difference when your legs are tired!)
Overall good as a race/time trial, not so good as an event where you want to enjoy the scenery.

In short: Soul-less
In full: Honestly there's nothing wrong with this race, particularly if you want a PB. Course is dull but speedy. Well organised although agree it was a mass start (after elites) so not really sure where to stand for you target time. T shirt nicer than last year (and they didn't run out of mediums), missed the cake but banana and water fine for me at the end. Marshalls did their job, great support from some of the Eastleigh residents (not so much from others!). So there's nothing wrong with this race at all, I just find it a bit soul-less. I run for fun not speed so maybe I'm just not the target group for this club race. Or maybe it's because a lot of my training runs cover the same ground that it's just not a special race for me.
