In short: Killer first mile
In full: I never quite recovered from the first uphill mile ... however at the top you were rewarded with glorious woodland scenery, some stunning views and four times as many water stations as promised. There were also friendly, encouraging marshalls and a fast finish. A cake/flapjack/banana at the end would have been nice, but will definitely consider doing this again next year.

In short: Hard first two miles, then it gets easier, you've done most of the up by this point!
In full: The hill doesn't seem so bad at the start. And then you hit the hill. Good encouraging marshalls that were quite happy to have the craic as you went round. Lovely woodland trails to run through. The locals walking round the wood also cheered and clapped you around. And the finish. Once you leave the wood it's all downhill. One of the fastest miles I've ever done! Flat out sprint by the time I got to the line.

In short: Better the second time around!
In full: Having done this race last year I was prepared -mentally, if not physically - for the steep uphill start, undulating two lap run through the woods and mad crazy downhill finish. Although a tough race, it is very friendly and the marshalls were all encouraging and supportive. Excellent race organisation, shame about the lack of tea and homemade cakes at the end this year as this is the only race I know where you get your post-race cuppa in a lovely china mug! For me, this is a 'better the devil you know' race which I enjoyed more this year than last, topped off by an impressive results service (immediately after the race and posted on the website in double quick time).

I would definitely do this race again. Well done Stroud AC!

In short: Up! Down! Up! Down!
In full: After the exclusively-uphill first mile, your legs aren't quite the same for the other eight undulating miles and downhill finish, but it's a surprisingly enjoyable race. Not a PB course, but then it's not meant to be.
Climbing/descending skills recommended!
