In short: Interesting mix of suburban scenery and offroad stretch In full: Shame the turnout was so low, not sure why this other than the technology to enter the race is annoying. Date of review: June 29, 2011
In short: Good race with some nice touches. In full: Race was well organised with some nice little touches (e.g. fresh fruit available at the finish). Warm and humid day so no PBs - unfortunately. Date of review: June 27, 2011
In short: A well organised race, as usual. In full: This race was held on the hottest day of the year, as was last years!
I was impressed with the high number of runners who turned up, as I had expected many "to give it a miss." I think the course was slightly different from last year, but relatively traffic free. I was more than 2 mins. faster than last year, and did not find the heat too much of a problem. I am now looking forward to the 10 mile later in the year. The whiskey tumbler was a nice touch at the finish, and a nice change from the usual medal. Date of review: June 27, 2011
In short: Well organised race In full: First time running my local 10k. Although very hot, this was an enjoyable race, very well organised with a good atmosphere and a mix of club and unattached runners. Date of review: June 27, 2011
In short: Hottest day of the year so far for this one! In full: I did this race last year and it was stupidly hot then, so when I signed up to do it again, I thought it couldn't happen again. Wrong!
V hot from about 5km onwards and well done to the organisers for putting another drinks stop in, it was definitely needed.
A good course with varied scenery and a couple of inclines, that one at 7km in the blistering heat had several people walking.
Well organised with marshalls encouraging people and nice finish in with lots of support for a good finish.
Chip timing would just take this one up a notch for those of us who don't start right at the front, but like to ensure we have the time recorded. Bring that in for next year and I will be back! Date of review: June 27, 2011
In short: Decent runaround at the back end of Southampton In full: A decent 10k, well worth turning up for. Well marshalled, quite accurate km markers, I think, and plenty of apples and bananas provided at the end. For the second year in a row it was uncomfortably warm, so well done to the organisers for adding an extra drinks station.
The course is slightly trickier than fast, I'd say with some non steep but still noticeable inclines and a bendy off road section. But nothing frightening.
A nice morning out and back home again lunch time. Date of review: June 26, 2011
In short: Pleasant semi-rural hack, with even a short offroad section.Pleasant day out. In full: Lordshill is a green outpost of Southampton - part of the course winds through an industrial estate, but takes in a Nature reserve!
95% tarmac with a short woody bridleway section thrown in for those who have never got their pristine ASICS grubby or risked a nettle sting ( inhalers to the fore urban types)
Well-marshalled friendly set up which starts and finishes at a playing field. Given that it is in walking distance of a public swimming pool and a more exclusive David lloyd tennis centre the lack of showers and a changing tent is not too troubling.
Favourite race of all time ? No Would I do it again ? Yes
( damme I even shaved a minute off last year's rather poor time too !)
