In short: Really enjoyable, my favourite race yet In full: Really good race. Excellant organisation, only slight hiccup was going the wrong way on the first lap doh. I should have listened to the instructions better at the start rather than faffing with my garmin. I did both days and this was my second and third marathon ever. Terrain was quite hard going on the gravel/ sand as I had only practised on road. Lovely atmosphere due to the small entry field Traviss and the two ladies in the tent put on a flawless event. We were lucky with the weather the whole weekend
Thanks very much Date of review: December 17, 2011

In short: Cracking race, excellent goodie bag made up for weather In full: This was a really good race, with a very easy to follow out-and-back route. On a sunny day, the course would be beautiful, but the rainy weather made it look dramatic and stark, which is also an experience! Lots of encouragement from other runners, who you saw frequently on later/earlier laps. Great marshalls, with a welcoming and very well-stocked base-camp. Brilliantly organised, would highly recommend. Date of review: December 12, 2011

In short: Good time at the seaside! In full: Great race. Small, friendly, good for those at the front & the back. Probably the best goody bag I've ever got - included huge toblerone plus a can of strongbow! And really nice slate coasters for those doing the double. Lucky with the weather both days - there's nowhere to hide next to the sea if the rain really hits.
Despite having to turn around every three and a bit miles and go through a gate each lap, time wasn't bad - was within a few minutes of PB. Date of review: December 12, 2011

In short: If only all races were like this ... In full: I don't think I've ever looked forward to a goodie bag before but the thought of the huge Toblerone waiting for me at the end of the second day put a late spring in my step ... This was a great, small, uber-friendly event with a level of organisation and attention to detail that was simply outstanding. And that goodie bag - in which the Toblerone was only the biggest item among many - was a real treat. Date of review: December 12, 2011

In short: Great, loved it and hope to be back In full: Raising money for charity but still laid on a very good ultra style refuelling station and packed goodies bag, with one of the best t-shirt and medal. Well done! Date of review: December 12, 2011

In short: Probably my favourite event of the year In full: A small and very friendly event, meticulously planned and executed. Despite the multiple loop format, the course isn't boring. In part due to the tricky footing on the trail sections, and the opportunity to greet fellow runners at different points on the course (and keep an eye on who's catching who). A well stocked checkpoint at the end of each loop, and the RD joining the runners were the perfect finishing touches. More goodies than you could shake a very large stick at, mean this event lives up to it's claim "Having completed lots of marathons we believe we know what it takes to put on an enjoyable marathon". Would not hesitate to return next year - but probably just for a single day, my legs want a divorce.. Date of review: December 11, 2011

In short: Great double event In full: Very friendly event and raised a lot of money for charity. great goody bag, tech shirt and nice slate tea coaster set for doing the double. The trail section was hard on the ankles for me but felt a bit easier on the second day for some strange reason. thanks for a great event :-) Date of review: December 11, 2011

In short: A small and very friendly event very weather dependent, but glorious today. In full: A marathon double, I did just the one day. Nice early start, no hanging around. Out and back (approx. 6 miles) of scenic flattish gravel/smooth tarmac/option of running at edge of links golf course. Plenty of opportunity to socialise. Weather was perfect today, sunny throughout and barely a breeze - could easily be torrential storm but I was assured the event would go ahead regardless, which is nice to know. Entry fee may seem steep, but it is a charity event AND the organisers pushed the boat out with custom design race numbers, great medals with extra badges, technical shirt, booze, chocolate and lots of other good stuff. Spied a seal briefly offshore. Apparently not pre-arranged. I will very most likely return to do this again. Date of review: December 10, 2011

In short: Friendly, stripped-back organisation. A perfect intro to small and cosy trail marathoning. In full: Everything about this race was great great great. The attractive and polished website made the event very appealing. The cost of the event (£40 for one day, £70 for the two) seemed slightly steep at first look but I can tell you it's good value for a lovingly constructed small event (25 runners tops) with lots of munchy goodies and water every 10k, a packed goody-bag including a great technical event t-shirt, a HH base layer, special medal, funky fridge magnet and a can of Strongbow! The event is essentially flat with mixed terrain, good for fastish times. Read the comprehensive website info but basically there is no need for marshaling and impossible to get lost - a good thing as, apart from timekeepers at the end of each of the 4 x 10kish there-and-back laps along the mainly pebble, grass and tarmac-topped sea defences there isn't any! I overshot in the first lap but this error was down to me not reading the instruction properly. This stripped-down organisational approach totally enhanced the experience for me... the race started at sunrise, with cloudless sky and frost and ice on the ground and apart from the occasional greetings with walkers and other competitors I had only the sight and sound of the surf and my own footsteps for company. In summary, I think this is a great race both for experienced distance runners sick of mass participation cattle-prodding and harking back to the days of home-made racing for the love of it, and for new recruits to the concept of trail running. I may even do the Sunday event next year! Thank you, the runners of Deal! Jim&Keri, team HB Date of review: December 10, 2011
