In short: The area where we raced is open to the public a few days a year as this is military ground so worth the run to Imber Village Date of review: December 30, 2012

In short: It always rains on the plain In full: A nice low key run to burn off the Christmas excess. After a sharp hill to start, the run down to Imber was very pleasant. The run back up onto the Plain and back was 'character building' into driving wind and rain, but was soon forgotten on running back down the first hill to the finish. Thanks to the marshalls who did a stirling job. Date of review: December 28, 2012

In short: Testing In full: Ideal way to punish yourself for over indulging over the holdays though shame it was a work day or attendance might have been up. Would really like the organisers to promote this more as its a memorable event and a chance to go to the Imber village which as an army training venue is closed to the public for most of the year. Give it a go and test yourself! Date of review: December 27, 2012

In short: Gale-force exposure In full: My third Plain Crazy and it's different each time! Great sweeping views and challenging gradients blasted by a powerful wind. It's a different experience from your average town 10k or half: small-scale, informal, unprecdictable and at the mercy of the weather. And for a very good cause. Thanks again Ted Wilson and colleagues. Date of review: December 27, 2012

In short: Perfect for blowing away the cobwebs! In full: This was not cross-country, it was on roads and tracks, so no need for off-road shoes. The first 6 miles saw the runners running with the wind at their backs - and we all seemed to fly along! Dreams of PBs went out the window during the second half, however, as steady uphill gradients and a brutal wind slowed everything down. I loved this race for the sheer sense of space (though this did mean we were fully exposed to the elements) and the real feeling that I was undoing the damage of Christmas indulgence! I finished feeling very virtuous indeed. It was great fun and everybody was very friendly. I will definitely be doing it again next year. Thanks to the organisers. Date of review: December 27, 2012

In short: Appalling if you're a dyed in the wool off-roader In full: Two miles of compacted vehicle track, ten miles of tarmac/concrete. Organiser had failed to check that the army had "cleared" the only available muddy bit, and was told it was O/B, 10 minutes before the start. Mind-numbingly boring course, with only three changes of direction. Marshals at water stations getting in the way. Perfectly useable steep off road hill by the start/finish not used. A completely useless map given out at registration (without the course on it !)Unique trophies though. If you liked this, then you really haven't done any descent off-road stuff.Or you're a road runner. I'll get my coat . . . . Date of review: December 30, 2011

In short: An unusual addition to any race calendar In full: Really enjoyed this race, especially the jaunt through Imber and the view across the Plain. The lack of female toilets and subsequent queue situation meant I missed the start of the race, but it didn't cause any major issues. This was a small, peaceful run and the perfect antidote to Christmas overload. Looking forward to Plain Crazy 2012. Date of review: December 30, 2011

In short: Great early start to the Spring marathon training! In full: This is the second year I've ran this and, although like some of the others I preferred last years more off-road route, I still thoroughly enjoyed it. Friendly marshalls and nice scenery, even a few tanks!! I spend Christmas in Somerset with family and this is now becoming part of my Christmas tradition! Will be back next year :o) Date of review: December 29, 2011

In short: 2 nasty hills....good for the thighs! In full: Due to circumstances beyond control (Army's fault), the race course was changed last minute which was a shame as I was hoping for more of a 'off the beaten track' kind of run with a splash of mud thrown in! The drinks stations were well organised & frequent & the marshals friendly. A mixture of running abilities present but not really for the inexperienced runner unless you like a challenge! Because of this, overall, it wasn't as I completely expected, not as muddy or as physically challenging but I wouldn't rule it out for next year...! Date of review: December 28, 2011

In short: Great race In full: A very enjoyable course. A combination of killer uphills and super quick downhills make this a very interesting course. The scenery is magnificent, and its all in areas that normally only military folk are allowed in. The surface is all good, on roads, tracks and tank tracks. Though this year it was shortened a bit at last minute, which avoided a grassy off road bit. Will definitely do it again. Date of review: December 28, 2011
