In short: Overpriced and Disorganised In full: Uncovered baggage area in the pouring rain. No start line organisation. No hope of running your own race. Just dodging slower people in front and bargeing past of faster people from behind. Atmosphere flat as a pancake. Ridiculous price. Had an eternal struggle getting hold of my finishing medal. Wont be doing this again. Date of review: October 23, 2012
In short: Badly organised/no toilet facilities/too many bottlenecks/walkers in the way-just move to one side please! In full: Badly organised with no toilets anywhere in sight at the beginning.Had to use Pret a Manger toilets, and even then there was a queue so thank you to the management and the customers for your patience!Walkers/slow runners in the way-I know we all have to start somewhere but it would seem they hadn't read the organisers instructions to keep RIGHT!?Massive bottle neck at 5k mark as toilets AND water stations opposite each other and massive bottleneck/queues at the end to collect medal.I didn't collect my commemorative t-shirt as by that stage I was tired of queuing & soaking wet/cold!!I didn't leave any belongings at the baggage bays and am glad-I noticed some bays empty of attendants despite property/bags still there getting wet and couldn't see anywhere for my stuff anyway as my number not visible at any bay! I've done several 5 & 10K NIKE runs, including the North V South and they were much better organised! Whats going on NIKE? Green Park perfect for staggered starts and just asking slower runners/walkers to move/keep to one side would be great as I could have done the 10k faster if I hadn't got stuck behind walkers/bottlenecks at toilet/water stations.Come on, I know you can do better, but I won't be doing this one again! In full: Admittedly it was pricey, and baggage area was soaking wet, but I really enjoyed the race from start to finish. Got right to the front for the start, so no hold-ups for me, got a pb at last, very pleased with 51:13. Atmoshpere and crowd support was fantastic, definitely be back again next year. :) Date of review: July 13, 2012
In short: Very disappointing for the cost of entry In full: Baggage Area Chaos, overcrowded, and no protection from the rain - everything got soaked. The provided baggage labels fell off bags. Staff didn't check the labels when returning items - I could have asked for anyone's bag.
The Start Not staggered, so had to fight way through crowds of slower runners / walkers. Took over 35 minutes after the start gun to finally cross the Start line. Race was started 10 minutes late.
The Finish Poor organisation on the medals - you had to be in the right place at the right time to get one. Poor goody bag: a few leaflets, a packet sugar, 1 teabag, 1 throat sweet and packet of pistachios. Some fruit, a yoghurt bar / chocolate bar or even a packet of crisps would have been very welcome having had a light breakfast. I've never seen such a pathetic goody bag.
The most expensive run I've done, definitely not value for money. The only good bit - excellent t-shirt. Even the landmarks were a bit lacking - the map shows you passing loads, but you only actually see Trafalger Square and Big Ben / Houses of Parliament. Date of review: July 13, 2012
In short: Poorly Organised In full: So my summary as follows: 1. Girlfriends running shirt (small) would barely fit a child, though to be fair the organisors did get a new rack pack issued before the weekend. 2. Baggage hold not covered, though we bought plenty of bin liners in case of rain. 3. We are not exactly slow runners but it became very tiresome having faster runners barge their way past us (Ill move out the way then!) a as said by others, they should have penned runners according to predicted time 4. Finished in an hour - hooray!! Oh hold on, it'll take what feels like another hour to get my medal and goody bag. So why could they not give medals at the finish line? Why did the organisors think a packet of sugar, a tea bag and a herbal boiled sweet were appropriate content for a goody bag??!!! 5. The URL was emailed today with my photo's from the run, however Stevie Wonder obviously had taken my and g/f pictures as we had none and therefore could not take advantage of the £17.99 photo that our Gold entry included.
So suffice to say, we wont be entering this one again - a shame as the support (in spite of the weather) was great, especially along the Embankment. Date of review: July 10, 2012
In short: Waste of money In full: Major organisational problems even before the race, with issues over race packs. No warning given that the race number would be the t shirt that you ordered. Issues then over t shirts not fitting etc. Only way you could get the photo was to wear the t shirt. On the day bag handling area was v poorly organised. Baggage handlers didn't seem to have a clue what they were doing. Bags were left in puddles and no cover provided. Surely after a week of rain it would have been common sense to have put plastic sheeting under and over the bag area. Chaos at the start and v demoralising to see the finishers coming in when you haven't even started. People were starting at the front and they were walkers, it really isn't difficult to organise a wave or timing pen start. Spent longer queuing for bag, medal and t shirt than running the race. They ran out of medals and some sizes of the commemorative t shirt. In places on the course where there were toilets, water and bottles on the floor, it was really dangerous and narrow. Needs to learn lessons from the BUPA runs, so much better organised and can be considered races. This was a shambles and should be considered an obstacle course rather than a race. Absolutely not worth the money. Date of review: July 9, 2012
In short: Great atmosphere, poor organisation In full: Just trying to get over an injury so this was never going to be a PB race for me. Unless the start is organised by abilty it is only going to be a fun run unless you start towards the front. I had to dodge around 4 ladies that were walking side by side only about 300 mtrs from the start. The baggage pens were chaos & needed to be covered, t-shirts were being given out without vouchers at the pens. The £50 entry fee can't be justified for the bad way it was organised so the day was slightly soured.
All of the above aside, the atmosphere was great, the crowds were fantastic, and the course is nice and flat and goes past some very iconic landmarks. Date of review: July 9, 2012
In short: Dismal organisation, could be so good. In full: No timing chip or baggage label arrived at all, despite chasing. 40 mins to get to start then a physical battle through the walkers, strollers etc - apologies to all who I elbowed on the way through! (Could be so easily fixed with timing pens.) Loos at narrowest part of course meant everyone had to walk, too few people handing out water (and poor sign[posting of water stations), shambolic luggage area, too few medals - basically the organisers couldn't have fot it more wrong from start to finish. Oh, and the highest entry fee I've come across for a 10k.
It could be so good - just look at the phenomenal London Marathon organisation and every other event! Date of review: July 9, 2012
In short: All the complaints are valid! In full: I do this race every year as part of a corporate team, the atmosphere is great but imagine the London Marathon squeezed onto a 10k course with a single massed start and piles of 25,000 bags lying in a heap on the pavement and you get an idea of the issues. It could be so much better, starting pens are simple to do and everyone would enjoy the race so much more but I feel feedback falls on deaf ears. Date of review: July 9, 2012
In short: A potentially brilliant race ruined by the lack of starting pens In full: The course is fantastic, the screens and speakers around the course are great. BUT...
The race itself is frustrating as it was 40-odd minutes of dodging around the groups of walkers who started at the front. It's not the walkers' fault, and it was probably frustrating to them be barged around by the people running past/through them. Just the simple addition of signs with predicted times along the road to the start line would've helped massively.
The baggage place was a farce, piles of bags left in the rain with no order to them.
If this had been a tenner i wouldn't have any complaints, but for £50 I expect a lot more.
