In short: Disappointed In full: I was disappointed with this venue. I was expecting a bit more buzz from the grandeur of the place but the house itself is hidden from the start/finish and is not actually open until April. After the run attempted to walk to the house but was politely asked to turn around. The compere was a bit ‘over the top’. With little incentive to stay after the race, most people rushed to leave, causing a bit of a chaotic jam – but I believe this was worse than usual.
In short: Steep Hills ruin PB In full: I am a fun runner/jogger this was not fun as the hills are tough! It took around 20 minutes to get into the venue and park. The event area was not very well laid out, I walked straight into a mass of people queuing for the toilet and start line. It was difficult to reach the baggage and information tent. The food on sale was fatty fried food not what every runner wants, other options would have been nice and of a better quality. We couldnt hear the commenator so we missed the warm up infront of the stage as it was a mass of people waiting to get to the start line. The start was delayed by 15 minutes for traffic I think, but we didnt know why at the time and we were cold and wet from a earlier down pour. The event start wasnt big enough for 2000 runners to start in one go, meaning it was crowded and meant a slow start amongst everyone trying to push past. The route takes in the house and views of the house which were nice but the hills at 3km and 8km were tough. 8km particularly deflating as almost round and then it ruins the end. Reverse the route? Support was good by the general public but marshals were unfriendly stewards except the one near 8km he was great (Show Sec). Crossed the line, commenatator loud but annoying. Recieved a medal, water and chocolate then went home. No buzz just a run, no charity feel other than the messaging on the side of the stage. Took us 1 hour and 5 minutes to exit the event. I know that Harewood has one exit but it seemed worse as there were no marshals stopping crazy drivers cutting each other up and racing for the exit. Im suprised no one crashed, marshals in the car park needed! Probably wouldnt do again, preferred the BHF Half last month, more of an atmosphere and better set up. Date of review: March 9, 2015
In short: Woud benefit from better organisation. In full: First time I've done this race; won't be doing it again. The atmosphere wasn't great (dull), organisation seemed a bit hap-hazard, motivational speaker was annoying, start was delayed maybe 10 mins (was getting cold), limited facilities, limited access to park after event and queuing for maybe 30-40 mins to exit the carpark. In short: Lovely trail run with a killer hill near the end to sort the men from the boys! In full: Crowded at the start onto narrowish trails meant getting stuck behind slower runners/walkers (who should have set off further back-walking at 2k, I ask you?)Exiting car parking at the end took an age. Good scenic course through the grounds and nice (although sporadic) support. Mars bar at the end went down a treat. Date of review: March 19, 2012
In short: Challenging terrain- lovely scenery In full: This was a really challenging race. The route was pretty narrow and crowded for the first 3km. The terrain was pretty slippy and muddy. There was also a very steep hill at 7.5km. But overall it was a great challenge, well organised and a nice mars bar at the finish! Date of review: March 18, 2012
