In short: Not your normal 10k In full: Great fun event, with support all the way round from other competitors and at the obstacles. If you are looking for something a little bit more challenging than a normal 10k this is a great race, spectacular scenery and obstacles. Way more fun than it should be Date of review: April 27, 2014
In short: Great fun with great people In full: I haven't run for years and decided to do the 10k version. There were plenty of obstacles and marshalls around the course. lots of support from the Regiment Fitness instructors. I particularly loved the plunge pool, zip wire and water slide. would definately do it again, but must remember to take warm clothing for after. Date of review: May 4, 2013
In short: Great race, great guys In full: This was the 2nd time doing the race and the organisation was much better with no queues before the race. Lessons had been learnt from their first race last year although more toilets would be good. Unfortunately approx 1 mile from the end it wasnt clear which path to take which meant that a few of us ended up going across a field instead of taking the tarmac road (i can only think a marshall had left his point for some reason). What makes this race so enjoyable is the enthusiasm by the regiment fitness guys. You can see they are keen for you to do well. Its a hard race and the hill is a killer but its well worth doing. In full: This is the second time I have doe the WAR at Dunstable and this time round it was even more enjoyable. Really friendly event with lots to do, Music and food for spectators, great goody bag at the end. Well done to the Regiment Fitness guys for putting this all together Date of review: October 3, 2012
In short: I entered the 10k and was in the first wave. My number and chip arrived in the post two weeks before the event, so now queuing on the day. There was a lack of way markers at the top of the second hill, but with a bit of common sense you worked out In full: where to go. The majority of obstacles were at the end of the race so you missed the benching up of runners that were at the earlier obstacles. Goodie bag had medal, t-shirt and red bull. Everything considered a good race, easily made a great race with Chester way markers. Date of review: September 23, 2012
In short: I entered the 5k but ran the 10k In full: On the positive this was great fun, fantastic setting with a brilliant atmosphere. The Regiment Fitness guys were really encouraging and helpful on the obstacles. I would definately do this again. The price seems steep but theres a lot of setting up involved and it also raises funds for Help for Heroes and you all get a T-Shirt. I was in wave 2 of the 5k. All went well until we climbed the really steep hill. A marker had been removed. I was 1st lady and 3rd overall. None of us knew where to go, and some stragglers from wave 1 were also wandering around. There were paths going off in all directions. Some of us headed right and ended up down by the Flying School and onto the 10K course. By the time we got to the 'tunnel crawl' others I had overtaken ages before started to appear from a gate, they were complaining they had gone wrong too. But I guess not as far as some of us! At the log carry GPS showed I was on for about 27 minutes for the 5k, but thanks to the missing marker I was out on the course for almost an hour. Date of review: September 23, 2012
In full: Course was fun, and the hills thrown in challenging. A great atmosphere, regiment fittness guys, were great, and very enthusiastic. Real shame organisation wasnt so good. A long wait queing for numbers and chips, which meant the race was late starting, so alot of waiting around. No goodie bag and red ball, which you were supposed to get at the finish. Wouldnt have minded not recieving it, but shouldnt have advertised it. T- shirt & medal were great how ever. And good to have sizes that fit small females, so thank you. Water station half way would have been good, and especially needed one at the finish line.
In short: Great race for a great cause In full: Positives - Excellent location, based on the Dunstable Downs with some decent obstacles along the way.
Negatives - Not enough water around the course (only 1 on the 10K) and no water at the finish. After the 2 VERY, VERY, VERY steep hills, water would have been a welcome sight! More marshals could have been present as I don't think all the obstacles were used by some people (the skip, and slippery mate) as there were no marshals around. Registration was a bit of a nightmare and the start was delayed because of this, but if it goes ahead again next year, I'm sure these things will be addressed. Lack of Red Bull and Goody Bag was missing at the finish, but the free massage was a treat!
All in all, a fun race and I will be back again next year. Date of review: April 16, 2012
