In short: Brilliant but tough
In full: Not so much a trail race as an entry level fell race! Big climb and because it was congested, no chance of going off too fast. Fairly technical descent with rutted tracks, mud and stiles but soon became tarmac. Nice and flat past the reservoir and a fast finish if you avoided the mud and tree roots. Great value for money and a spectacular place to run.

In short: Nice views - bloody hard work
In full: Very interesting race - very slow and congested to start with as the unexpected climb to the top of the hill but then evened out to some fantastic views. Very charming run but pretty tough

In short: Glorious Scenery
In full: As others have said the first 3 or 4k is mostly uphill, tight tracks and bottlenecks or stopping to climb over styes but don't let that put you off! The scenery is stunning, the atmosphere was great and the organisation was brilliant. I far prefer this type of run to road races and getting a pb is secondary for me, which is handy because there's virtually no chance with this one, so I enjoyed it very much.

In short: Incredible scenery but difficult race
In full: Low-to-zero PB potential for this, a mostly rutted-trail race in some spectacular hillside location. The first four kilometres will frustrate any runner used to roads and light trails with the plethora of jutting path rocks, bogs, water, and bumps. After that the path settles and the race becomes a pleasant series of undulations and more polite tracks alongside some spectacular picnicking spots. The early race congestion was more of a sign of the race's unexpected popularity combined with the fantastic weather rather than wayward planning; regardless, it was still a bit dispiriting when trying to make an early move to be boxed in for nearly a kilometre!

This all said: REALLY well organised and marshalled, phenomenal atmosphere, and a truly beautiful location. Just don't go expecting to crack any pots.

In short: This has killed road races for me. I won't be rushing back to them, great to get muddy.
In full: A lovely race, a bargain at £6 to enter and what a stunning drive out from Manchester. A bit of a frustrating start with so many bottlenecks but once you get out there it's another challenge.
Great to get covered in mud and be able to look around and see the views and avoid the sheep that are pottering about. Very supportive runners and stewards.
Particularly needed the two water holes either side of the drinks station, for my feet.
Been a bit spoilt the last few races with the goody bags and prizes but the £5 voucher will contribute to new (clean) socks.
