In short: Decent race, particularly if you're looking for a pb. In full: Was my first time at this race and my overall impression was positive. Parking was right by the start/finish area (you have to pay a small amount) which was great. My number and chip were posted to me so I was ready to race when I arrived.
My only real criticism of the race was with the start. Numbers were quite high (about 450?) and with the run being on quite a narrow path/pavement congestion is an issue. There were people in front of me who were clearly slower and people behind me who were clearly quicker. I know it's up to the runners to get into the right position generally but maybe a slightly staggered start with quicker runners (say under 40 minutes) going first followed by 40-45 minutes etc etc. With chip timing this should be possible.
Anyway once I got going I really enjoyed the run out towards Hythe. Marshals were friendly and plentiful and there was a water station at about 3K and then 7K on the way back. I actually thought the out and back route was really nice. Wasn't really a problem having the quicker runners coming back on one side and the slower runners going out on the other side. It meant we could cheer for and encourage our friends and club mates.
Nice flat course which would have had pb potential but for the warm conditions. Finish was well organised with a bottle of water, a banana and a goody bag being handed out.
Instead of a medal we were presented with a golden boot. Not bad and I actually quite like it but it doesn't really stand out as being from the Folkestone 10K like a design on a medal would. I have another one from a different race in Kent.
Apart from the couple of minor issues I had a really fun time at this race and would definitely come back. Nice location and easy access from the motorway (I came from Sevenoaks). Friendly people and a flat 10K along the coast. Thanks to the organisers. Date of review: May 27, 2014
In full: Had a great time. Did it last year as well and hope to be fit for 2014! Love the trophy like last year. Another golden left foot. Perfect, as I've been told many times that I've got two left feet! Date of review: May 31, 2013
In short: Thoroughly Enjoyable In full: Did this last year, improved my time by about a minute, love it cos I hate hills ! Absolutely delicious bar in goody bag, great marshalls very encouraging, do love the trainer but shame it couldn;t have been different colour from last year but it does have date on it -thanks Date of review: May 28, 2013
In short: Great race, with a fast picture perfect course. In full: Really enjoyed this race and the course is great, run on a pancake flat course on a scenic coast route. The marshals did a great job but could not see any in the car park directing people to race HQ. But after leaving the car park could not fault the race. The route is one of the best. The course is flat, fast and has scenic views of the Kent coast. The shoe, you got instead of a medal was a great idea as a keepsake of the race and like the running guide as well. Will be back for the Folkestone half in September. Date of review: May 28, 2013
In short: Very flat and fast so if you are looking for a PB sign up for next year. In full: Having ran the 10 miler earlier in the year I was looking forward to the 10k version with the sole aim of breaking my PB. Which I did. The support and marshaling along the route was superb and the souvenir trainer is just ace. For me the only negative was the registration. I'd applied online well in advance of the race but was informed I needed to pick up my number and chip on the day. This was a little frustrating as I had to join a lengthy queue with the on the day registrants. A separate queue would have helped. Date of review: May 27, 2013
In short: Cracking scenary, great little trophy and a flat course In full: A really great race, the course is out from folkstone towards Hythe and back to Folkstone and is flat as a pancake so lots of potential for a PB. It says you get a medal, but we actually got a really nifty little trophy in the shape of a trainer! Very good all in all. Date of review: May 27, 2013
In short: Fast and flat. Great atmosphere In full: Really friendly atmosphere and nice flat course made for good times or those who hate hills! Well marshalled and great support along the route. Not sure about the running shoe trophy.... Date of review: May 27, 2013
In short: Well organised race on a flat course by the seaside In full: Enjoyed this event. Nice flat course by the seaside. 1 water station. Well organised even the cool weather was sorted! Chip timing. Good mix of runners. Brilliant unique trophy (gold running shoe!)
Only issue are the lack of portaloos but not a big deal.
Will be back next year. Date of review: May 26, 2013
