In short: Gale force coastal downpour...great fun! :) In full: Despite the weather, the organisers were amazing and having so many volunteers and marshals lining the course was amazing. Thanks especially to the registration team who were able to give us replacement numbers when we left ours at home...2hrs away! Quirky little shoe trophy too...love it! Date of review: June 1, 2015
In short: Well organised and hugely enjoyable! In full: So let's firstly mention the weather.... a bit of a coastal breeze might be an understatement, but nobody can control that so it shouldn't be a factor when reviewing the event. What should be praised is the time and effort spent by the marshals and event staff to make it work despite the conditions! It was pretty miserable waiting around at the start to get moving, so it must have been quite a challenge standing around for a couple of hours. Thanks to everyone involved in keeping a smile on their face and making it a pleasant experience. As for the course, a little narrow in places, but as a slower runner, not an issue for me. I thought the promenade route was excellent and as a relative local who knows the area, I know what great views are in offer when the sun is out! Some people received a medal and some a golden trainer. I have a medal and is quite a nice memento with stickers to add your race time. Would I run it again? In a heartbeat. Parking was a real plus, massive facility very close to the start and the attendants helped get people moving after the rave by speeding up the payment process. One of my favourite 10k events so far in my limited running career! The only thing I think I would like to be considered (despite my previous comments) is maybe a unique, bespoke medal that reflects either the location or the charity or sponsors. I do love my bespoke medals and there aren't enough on offer in the East Kent events. Thanks everyone, great event overall! Date of review: June 1, 2015
In short: OK In full: An OK race - great pb potential, nice sea views, car parking close to start was excellent. Loo queue seemed long, but didn't have chance to queue up as had to race back to car due to the advertised bag drop being missing - someone told me later the weather had prevented the marquees being set up so hopefully next year that will be fixed (or the marshals at the start are better briefed on the arrangements). Recommended for pb potential, views and friendly marshals along the route. Date of review: May 31, 2015
In short: fast (if weather behaves), friendly and well organised. In full: Ignoring the horrific weather... Excellent race, well balanced (and well pitched by organisers) between experienced and new runners. Really enjoyed it despite the blow your number/face off gusts. Date of review: May 31, 2015
In short: Decent race, particularly if you're looking for a pb. In full: Was my first time at this race and my overall impression was positive. Parking was right by the start/finish area (you have to pay a small amount) which was great. My number and chip were posted to me so I was ready to race when I arrived.
My only real criticism of the race was with the start. Numbers were quite high (about 450?) and with the run being on quite a narrow path/pavement congestion is an issue. There were people in front of me who were clearly slower and people behind me who were clearly quicker. I know it's up to the runners to get into the right position generally but maybe a slightly staggered start with quicker runners (say under 40 minutes) going first followed by 40-45 minutes etc etc. With chip timing this should be possible.
Anyway once I got going I really enjoyed the run out towards Hythe. Marshals were friendly and plentiful and there was a water station at about 3K and then 7K on the way back. I actually thought the out and back route was really nice. Wasn't really a problem having the quicker runners coming back on one side and the slower runners going out on the other side. It meant we could cheer for and encourage our friends and club mates.
Nice flat course which would have had pb potential but for the warm conditions. Finish was well organised with a bottle of water, a banana and a goody bag being handed out.
Instead of a medal we were presented with a golden boot. Not bad and I actually quite like it but it doesn't really stand out as being from the Folkestone 10K like a design on a medal would. I have another one from a different race in Kent.
Apart from the couple of minor issues I had a really fun time at this race and would definitely come back. Nice location and easy access from the motorway (I came from Sevenoaks). Friendly people and a flat 10K along the coast. Thanks to the organisers. Date of review: May 27, 2014
In full: Had a great time. Did it last year as well and hope to be fit for 2014! Love the trophy like last year. Another golden left foot. Perfect, as I've been told many times that I've got two left feet! Date of review: May 31, 2013
In short: Thoroughly Enjoyable In full: Did this last year, improved my time by about a minute, love it cos I hate hills !
