In short: A lovely riverside race with some trail elements In full: This race was well organised, and had a great atmosphere at the start, although this was definitely helped by the day being only the second sunny Sunday of the year. The route was a joy - flat, runnig along the Thames or between & beside fields for almost all its length. It's wasn't a fast trip for me, despite being flat. There were a couple of short bits of single file running, and a kissing gate and two stiles to negotiate, all of which involved a very short wait. I happen to really like that sort of thing in a trail run, and the obstacles made it even more enjoyable for me I've walked and run over much of this area many times. Conditions were great on Sunday - a fair section of the route was in the river a few weeks ago. Date of review: June 4, 2013
In short: Very good race, nice scenery, but... In full: It would be nice if something could be done about the stiles, as queuing to get over them really break the momentum. Also, too many runner with MP3 players, which can make overtaking tricky on narrow path. Date of review: June 3, 2013
In short: Great course, well organised and a good atmosphere to boot. In full: Well done Sam, another great race and every year its sunny! Lovely atmosphere and a race suited to all. Some bridges to test your legs in an awesome country setting. Date of review: June 3, 2013
In short: Quite simply one of the best events I've ever taken part in In full: Well done Marlow FM & Sam Amend - the 10K this morning was absolutely first class for me. I've been running these sort of events, local & way beyond, for 20 years now, and at the moment I'm genuinely struggling to recall any events that were better than this.
The route/scenery was absolutely beautiful - lovely countryside, long riverside sections, outstanding.
The marshalling was second to none - I've never seen so many! It seemed they were at every corner - all with helpful and/or encouraging comments & smiles, fantastic.
The one aspect that surprised me was the speed of the course - I'd assumed given the fact it was going to be footpaths, varied terrain, and we were well warned of a couple of styles & a gate (none of which could have been avoided) that it wouldn't be quick, but I couldn't have been more wrong. If it wasn't for those three very slight "obstacles", it would have been a definite PB-potential course. In fact, it should be considered as such anyway - it's very flat (apart from a couple of bridges across the river), so you can almost certainly make up for the lost seconds at those three points no problem.
Oh, and considering it was only the 2nd running of this event, and assuming that the budget was limited therefore, even the medal was quite impressive!
So, VERY highly recommended - I genuinely cannot think of anything to fault it. If the organisers want "constructive criticism", then I can't help, all I can suggest is "same against next year, please!"
If entries were open now, I'd have put my name down for 2014 already, absolutely no question at all. Date of review: June 2, 2013
In short: Really nice trail 10k, great organisation In full: The organisation of this event was really smooth. The race is mainly on trail paths with one or two obstacles, so don't expect to challenge your road PB, but it makes for a really good 10k effort. Good marshalling, and Marlow FM to listen too before the off. Date of review: June 2, 2013
