In short: Lovely race but bottle-neck near start In full: Lovely 10k race (mostly) through Charterhouse grounds. It was a shame that there was such a bottle-neck at around 1k and then single track for a bit. Nice scenery - and very hot! Thanks to all the organisers. Date of review: June 14, 2014
In short: Beautiful scenery, friendly hosts and GREAT run! In full: Great new start with plenty of room. Perfect for a post run picnic. Good organisation and friendly marshalls - well done Waverley Harriers and Charterhouse. Very beautiful and challenging course, loved it. Some gripes: 1)sort out the congestion after Borough Rd entering the footpath, and on the footpath itself 2) the fastest 5K runner hit congestion getting out of Charterhouse at the water station Date of review: May 20, 2014
In short: Great atmosphere, Challenging course! In full: Fabulous day for my hometown run and great support from all the Waverley Harriers, marshals and locals. Route change this year created rather an irksome level of congestion - the river path proved difficult for anyone to overtake on. It worked better towards the end of the course last year when we had all had more time to spread out. Still, if you're up for a road/trail challenge then this is the one to do. And let's not forget those hills... Special mention goes to the lovely people with the impromptu water and hose-spraying station half way up the last big hill. Date of review: May 19, 2014
In short: Good race but has some issues In full: I'll always support my hometown race, but the route has to change and there should be staggered starts for the 5 and 10k runners. Yesterday the towpaths were very congested and slowed a lot of people down. It's not fair to blame the slower runners as everyone was doing their best. The problem is with the course so next year it would be great if we could avoid the towpaths and hit the road. The weather was fantastic, there was a great atmosphere and a lot of smiling faces. So if you like running up hills then sign up for the Godalming Run. Date of review: May 19, 2014
In short: Great scenery with a challenging hill In full: Well organised, great atmosphere, and what glorious weather... although too hot for me! An earlier start would have helped but I guess we don't expect 22 degrees in May.
I agree with the other reviewers comments about a staggered start to ease congestion, complete logjam only 400m from the start was disheartening.
Also, the 1k fun run, seemed to be some confusion over the route. Most of the kids seemed to run a full lap of churchyard and park then turned left to the finish after passing through the churchyard the second time, I reckon that was 750m and two full laps would have been 1k. Saying that, they all had a great time. Date of review: May 19, 2014
In short: 5km & 10km races: A well organised event, with extensive hill climbs around 2km and 8km. In full: A most enjoyable and rewarding morning - thank you so much. Clearly the organising committee had devoted many hours to the meticulous planning to make the multiple events an absolute success. Not clear how they arranged such magnificent weather, though this may have been too hot for some competitors.
I have run in all three races and I think the modified course was probably the best so far. In particular the extended route around the perimeter of the playing fields of Charterhouse was a most exhilarating experience at such a prestigious location. I am told there is a cloistered quadrangle at the back of the main building and all you need now is some sort of additional deviation beneath the cloisters.
After the race I was talking to a friend about the congestion along the Wey valley path from the waterworks. One suggestion for improvement would be to stagger the starts of the two main races – starting the 10km at 11.00am and the 5km at 11.15am (or vice versa) thereby reducing the number of people competing for limited space along this single track path.
Looking forward to the 2015 event. Date of review: May 19, 2014
