In short: Well worth turning up for In full: The course was improved by lessening the Galley hill part. This helped keep the course fast. I took a good 25 seconds of my PB here. As the course is fast I'm surprised that this doesn't attract more runners, especially that it's held on such a nice seafront. Very well organised. Chip timing. Nice medal too. In short: Nice small event, great for 1st timers and excellent for kids! In full: This is my 2nd time running this event. Nice small event around 250 runners, pleasant out and back a couple of times along the seafront. Easy to park and all in all a hassle free event. The main reason I did it again this year though is beacuse of the the THREE funruns before hand. Most events have one fun run usually 1m+ But here you have a 500m, 1k & 2k. Which meant my boy (turns 3 in November) was able to take part. He loved having his own number and running with Daddy and he even got the same medal as me (depsite me running 20x further :-) and as the fun runs are before the main event, it means it is far easier logistically (from a parent perspective). Other events should take note! Date of review: October 1, 2012
In short: Nice race by the beach In full: Second time running this one. The course returned to the "original" one (in 2011, we had to do Galley Hill twice due to works on the promenade - ouch!). Nice cool conditions with nice sea breeze.
Plenty of free parking around the town centre. 4 portaloos. Well organised HQ.
This is not a BIG race as its name suggests - 246 finishers. Flat course with the one climb up Galley Hill - only once! Also didn't have to run down all of the other side of Galley Hill (only about 80m) meaning only one incline this time round!
Nice small crowd support at the start/finish/mid point line. Had to do some dodging to get around pedestrians on the promenade. 1 water station at the 5.5Km mark.
Water, sweets and crisps at the end. Same medal as last year and nice technical t-shirt.
May do it again. We'll see. Date of review: September 30, 2012
In short: Flat course and atmosphere by the sea In full: unfortunately due to the start in a drab closed high street it gave the race a dull experience. Understandably better for organisation purposes. Nothing really to say about it, boring. Date of review: September 30, 2012
In short: Great race, but can we go back to the flat course? In full: This is a somewhat distant retrospective review, but I thought that inclusion of the hill—though not in itself dreadful—takes the edge of this being the really fast, flat course that it once was. This was my all time favourite race until they did this. Always a good atmosphere though and it's well supported and organised. Date of review: September 12, 2012
In short: Nice race by the beach - but what about that hill - twice! In full: Did the 2011 version. Due to some break down in communication with the local council, the route was changed 2 days prior to the race! This meant we had to do a pretty challenging hill twice (which means 4 inclines!). Was not prepared for that! Also a very warm day.
Apart from that the race is a good one to do. Not a big field (about 200 finishers). Good support at the start/finish line. Issues with the water stations as only 1 poor soul manning it at a very narrow hairpin type turn.
Nice medal. Nice technical t-shirt too.
Am doing it again this year. Fish n chips on the beach post race never tasted better! Date of review: June 13, 2012
