In short: Good test of uphill and downhill skills...not much level! In full: A switchback course with plenty of uphill/doOpens with a long 2K haul up a stony track. Middle 3K "out(1.5K downhill)and back(1.5K uphill)" section is unusual but allows you to see the leaders and greet other colleagues. Another 1.5K downhill next along a narrow track(difficult to overtake here), followed by a killer steep 0.5K uphill section at 6.5K, only for the brave....I would have been quicker lying down! All round a very enjoyable, well organised and friendly event with plenty of encouraging marshals. I clocked only 9.73K on my Garmin....I calculate from the Garmin route graph(based on topographical data), that the ups/downs would have added about 85m to the distance recorded on a normal 2 dimensional GPS device like my Garmin, giving an estimated true distance of 9.82K. I wonder what other people clocked? Not that it bothers me...every course is interesting and a different challenge. Date of review: September 29, 2014
In short: Still great! In full: True to my words last year, I returned, this time with my running pal. Again, a super atmosphere, with very friendly helpers/marshals everywhere. The cakes still as yummy as last year, the technical t-shirt - this time in a lovely blue - still of high quality. Yes, you guessed it - I shall be back, again, and so will my friend. Thank you everyone for giving us all a lovely run. Date of review: September 28, 2014
In short: Hard in places but well worth doing In full: Very well organised & plenty of Marshall's on the route, it was a very testing run with a couple of long hills thrown in for fun. Would have been nice to get a medal at the end instead of a t-shirt but that would be my only negative comment & will be running it again next year Well done Saffron Walden.
In short: Super 10K! In full: My very first time at this lovely event and I wasn't disappointed: Superb organisation, very friendly & motivating marshals, a very scenic and undulating course which gave you something to do, very yummy cakes and a very good quality technical t-shirt. I shall be back next year. Date of review: September 29, 2013
In short: Old school race In full: This is like the old fashioned race, where PB is not essential, but having a good time is certain., The course is very good compared to other races around here, and when you finish despite your time it makes you feel like you have achieved something. Well done to the organisers! Date of review: October 6, 2012
In short: Challenging In full: First time race and new PB so far :) VERY narrow at stages and a little dull if I'm honest,! killer hill near the end which was fun for me as I over took plenty :) all in all very pleased and will be returning next year Date of review: October 1, 2012
In short: good scenery but lot of ups and downs. good facilities at the start plus homemade cakes and superior icecream. A very good technical shirt as a momento. All in all a permanent fixture in the diary. Date of review: September 25, 2011
In short: Well organised and marshalled race! In full: My first time running the Saffron Walden 10k, and I'll be back for more. With a large changing area, hot showers, refreshments, a testing course, drinks station and army of marshalls there is little more to wish for. A bottle of water and quality T-Shirt at the end seal the deal though. I'll be back next year - hopefully thinner and fitter :| Date of review: September 27, 2010
