In short: you dont get race results online for days. slowest online results of any race i have done. In full: Great goody bag of fruit, and Bonds icecream, o.k medal, But very slow at posting online results, Grumpy time keeper who tells you to go away if you ask for time. BAD ATTITUDE. In short: Wish there were more In full: Elswick? Never heard of it until yesterday.Lovely little village in Lancashire near Preston.A last minute decision to run this 10miler was a choice I'm very glad I made.Despite the sweltering heat( which others assured me adds at least 5mins on to your expected time) this was a refreshing change from the usual jam packed, edgy atmosphere of some 5 and 10ks Ive done recently.Although this had a high proportion of club runners everyone was in good friendly spirits and up for the high temperature challenge. The thought of a free cooling ice cream at the end was a unique and welcome novelty for a race. The country lanes twisted and weaved their way around the picturesque Elswick with friendly encouraging marshals well prepared at the two, in the middle of nowhere, water stations on hand.Wel organsied and Goody bag full of fruit. For such a small turnout and generally low key affair, this gem of a race had everything and more a runner could ask for.Coffee on site, More water at the finish, great marshals and a pleasure to be a part of.Well done Alan and the team. In short: My first 10 miler In full: This was my first 10 miler and the furthest I'd run before! I found it a great place to start my longer distance running!
Easy to get your number! The course was scenic and pleasant! The marshalling was excellent as were the water stations every 5k! Plus I didn't come last which was a surprise :)
The reward was a bag of fruit (which I gave my mum as i dont eat fruit) and two ice creams (because I ended up with two vouchers)! The ice cream was a perfect ending to my run but that's just a personal opinion as I love bonds ice cream :)
The only down side was no medal, I do like a medal to prove I did it :)
Overall a thoroughly enjoyable run for my first 10 miler and I hope to do it next year but a little faster :) Date of review: July 23, 2012
In short: nice flat run ni the countryside In full: well organised, unique goody bag at the end containing a melon, orange, apple, nectarine & kiwi fruit! plus free ice cream although you had to go to Bonds just up the road to get that so some people may have missed it. Only slight complaint was the marshall on the very last corner was stood on the near side rather than the far side of the road, so it was not obvious whether you had to turn down the road or go straight on (normally I just follow the person in front but things had thinned out by then so noone to follow!) In short: Dull and unwelcoming race In full: Not a fan of this race have to say. Came from Manchester to do htis race but I didn't find it very welcoming. Out in the countryside but all the narrow roads seemed to just blend into each other after a while, nothing to break it up. Lots of sharp bends on the roads that I didn't like.
At the end just got a bag a fruit - pretty eavy to carry home and didn't feel like much of a "reward" for completing a race. No one gave me ice cream at the end and I didn't see anyone with any or anywhere where you were meant to pick it up from - maybe they'd just ran out by the time I finished.
Compared to the recent and near by Freckleton half marathon this race was extremely poor. Date of review: July 21, 2012
In short: Uphill but never down? In full: No killer hills but we seemed to be going up slight gradients all the way until the last mile. Liked the fruit and ice cream, better than another medal or T-shirt. A very good race, little traffic and a good road surface. Date of review: July 21, 2012
