In short: Low-key, enjoyable race In full: I wasn't expecting any fanfare after receiving my race pack containing my number and nothing else. This reduces my mark for "beginner friendliness", but is only a minor quirk really. The only other bad point is the amount of time it has taken to see the results (one week following the race). The race itself was very enjoyable and well organised. It is a low-key event, initially feeling quite "clubby", but friendly nonetheless.
The race was on a single lap, fairly scenic course around the Luton Hoo estate on mainly traffic-free roads. After the first mile there is a steady incline of around 6% for half a mile, then about 1.5% until it flattened out. At about the 6km mark there was a fairly steep (about 9%) decline for around a quarter of a mile. Then there were a series of shorter undulations until the end. A nice touch was the marking of tree roots with white paint to help avoid tripping. Marshalls were in all the right places, which helps when you are a useless navigator like me. Although it isn't a flat course, just remember that for all the uphills there are downhills too!
Another nice touch was the medal, depicting a torchbearer. My very own "Olympic" medal :)
The parking and facilities at the venue were fine for the number of participants. I really enjoyed this race and will definitely return.
In short: A good race in nice scenery In full: I have done this race for the second time, and really enjoyed it, but as said by another runner, why is it taking so long to release results? Especially for such a small field. Date of review: July 31, 2012
In full: I do this race every year as it's local, but frustrated at lack of information at the finish as to positions and times. Also results still not available on their website on the following Tuesday which is pretty poor considering chip timing is available on a lot of other races which would solve this problem. Generally a good course with some fairly tough bits which make it enjoyable. Date of review: July 31, 2012
In short: Excellent Well Organised Race In full: The Scenery was fantastic in parts, the organisation and Marshall's were superb. Very demanding course with great hills in places. In the woods the tree roots has been marked in white for the safety of the runners and plenty of drink and food at the end. Great facilities for both runners and spectators for showering and drinks afterwards. Well done to all. Date of review: July 29, 2012
