In short: Very up and down with hard hill, long hill at just over 5 miles In full: The course was well sign posted and plenty of marshalls out on the course. There was a lot of support (could have been more at the finish but thats no way the fault of the organisers).
Loved the memento at the end - rectangular paperweight with female and male runners engraved inside it (and also the usual t-shirt) Date of review: August 14, 2012
In short: Not a bad effort In full: Surprised there were only 200 in the race, but that didn't bother me.I thought some of the course was a bit boring and also wondered at times whether I was going the right way because there were times when a pathway or option could have been taped off to stop you going the wrong way. Also a lot of the sparse crowd just seemed stunned as you ran past them.I thought the gift at the end was very nice though. I wonder if they could have the course where you are not going back on other runners and not have so many sharp turns. A pretty good effort though and with a few improvements deserve a better turn out next time from local runners and the public. Date of review: August 13, 2012
In short: good effort for first attempt at organisation - not flat, but fun, nice atmosphere. In full: This was the first attempt at the organisation of a half for Carmarthen and I have to say I have been to worse organised events that have been running for years! There were plenty of marshalls to start with, and they were generally enthusiatic.(Nice to see the local police getting involved with road crossings etc), they did peter out a bit towards the end, and once the runners were spread out in the last couple of miles the instructions were a bit sparse. Great route though, challenging, but not so much that it should deter anyone and nice finish location in the town centre kept the atmosphere at the end going, with everyone sitting around outside the cafes and steps. Didn't run 13.1 miles, although I was assured the course was the correct length. Will definitely come back next year. Date of review: August 12, 2012
In short: Will be there next year but lack of signs / arrows and incorrect instructions from a marshal messed it up for a few of us. In full: I really enjoyed the race despite the following blunder. Marshals were really nice but they need to point where to go rather than clap. As once of the front runners I repeatedly had to shout at marshals "which way". It was bound to go wrong and it sure did later on in the race.
Things got worse when one marshal on a bike told 3 of us "straight up and turn at the end". There was a junction half way up where we should have turned right but we went straight up and turned at the end. Correct turning was not signed and there was no marshal there, arrow on road.
Only ran 12 miles in the end. Cost me a possible 3rd or 4th place cost the leading lady (who was in the lead by minutes) her win.
Still, I did really enjoy despite this and I am sure next year everything will be fine.
