In short: My biggest race to date enjoyed every minute, the route, time and effort that was put in leading up to event during and after was second to none excellent massive well done and thank for being a supportive team ?????? Date of review: September 24, 2015
In short: One of the most enjoyable races I've run! In full: Entered this as part of a build up to half marathon in November. Weather was sunny but cool enough to make running comfortable. The Salt Fest taking place added to the atmosphere before the race started. Setting everyone off in batches of 3 was a good idea and more races should adopt this approach to avoid the mass crush at the start.
The route was enjoyable and varied - canal towpaths, roads (a little) and countryside trails/grass. This had just the right level of difficulty whereby it doesn't destroy your body but you know you've been in a race!
The marshalling and signs were very good considering the rural nature of much of the course so thanks to all that gave up their spare time to make it possible.
Definitely recommend. Oh and a free pint after the run was welcomed! Date of review: September 13, 2015
In short: Very scenic, multi-terrain race with a mix of steady flats and a few challenging climbs. Relax with free bangers and mash and festival atmos afterwards. In full: As a self-confessed tortoise I spent most of the race with the 'last man' but loved the scenery and the introduction to multi-terrain racing. Thighs were dead by about mile 7 when we rejoined the canal. Despite being at the back, the marshalls cheered everyone on to the end. Gates aren't friendly if you are chasing a PB, although they make a handy excuse for a breather! Not a massive field (about 90), but large enough for a friendly atmosphere. In short: Great intro to trail running over the usual 10k, with a great atmosphere and prize. In full: Staggered start on the canal tow-path, with a nice scenic hill at the 1/2 way mark, returning to the canal for the finish with a local festival crowd to cheer you out and back. The post-race prize (mug this year, t-shirt last year) and free bangers and mash from the local pub is a nice change from the usual goody bag. a banana would be nice though! Will be back next year. In short: Canal start and finish, decent off road in between. In full: As someone who is not too keen on canal running, I was surprised part way round to realise how much I was enjoying it! Could have benefitted from electronic timing so that there was not so much working out for people to do as there was a staggered start. Shame that the weather was not great, or we would have made a day of it and done the walk in the afternoon too! Thanks to all involved. Date of review: September 19, 2013
