In short: Can you remember your first?
In full: This was my first race in almost 20 years (since I left school)but I knew the area pretty well and support my local club even though I'm not a member, yet!

On arrival everything was easy to find and apart from the scrum in front of the tea & cake tent, pretty straightforward.

I enjoyed the course, the marshals were great and the water stations well placed and whilst I knew I was guaranteed a PB I'm still surprised(and delighted) with the time I posted.

Without anything to compare it to I'm sure there is room for improvement but I've been bitten by the bug and am looking forward to next years race!

In short: Very good first attempt by organisers
In full: Very good race which was well organised and marshalled. Water in bottles and at appropriate intervals. Would have been nice to have a big clock at the end. Got a pb so v happy

In short: Excellent Half Marathon
In full: Great value, good souvenir in time for winter (fluro t-shirt), excellent marshals, tough but fast course and top-notch facilities... Only complaint was water, I'd prefer cups as I just have a few sips, so seemed a waste to throw most of a 500ml bottle of water... Thanks again, see you next year...

In short: Challenging local race
In full: This is the first year this has been run and hats off to the organisers in pulling it off. I thought everything went well (and being on the inside so to speak, there didn't seem to be that many panics).
I ran the actual race myself and being part of the club it was nice to have so many friendly marshalls along the course, especially the one we could hear from miles off ;-) Water stations were in appropriate places.
Course itself for the slower runners was tough towards the end due to the wind and the rain. Several "inclines" to keep you on your toes through the course. NOt necessarily a pb course but wends it way through lovely countryside and a couple of villages.
T shirt fab, rather bright for me (!), race results speedily produced (always a bonus).
I didn;t get to taste the cake or bbq :-(

In short: Great fast(ish) course, atmosphere and nice touches
In full: The course certainly undulates in places but perhaps the only challenging part is the gently sloping ascent in the last half-mile. You do it at the start and it seems nothing but at the end really kills any last 'spurt' you may be attempting. All in all though it's definitely a course on which to target a PB.

Some excellent extras too - it was really nice to get water in a bottle on the course instead of a cup so you could intake without spilling it all over you(!) and the bright-yellow t-shirt at the end will be an addition to the running wardrobe more useful than most, coming into winter.

I think it's especailly good for faster runners - it was the Essex county chanpionship race so there was a great turnout with plenty to run with at the front (1hr15-1hr25), making a change from other country races I've done where you can be the only one out there.

Well done - would love to come back next year!

In short: This was the 1st Essex half marathon. It was well organised, the course was fast and flat and everyone was friendly. Great bacon rolls and cakes as well.

In short: Essex flat countryside, new PB, great home made cakes at start, t-shirt but no medal or goody bag
In full: First year the race has been run - great course - countryside, flat, v few cars. Improvements - race clock at finish, goody bag (my favourite bag had a Mars Bar, medal for all runners. Lovely cakes at start, if running again a lot of small children came to support, could have something to entertain them. Would do again as fairly local and got a PB.
