In short: "hurt"ing but worth it In full: I don't usually review these things; I leave that to him indoors who is much more of an expert...#runningtowork. BUT - yesterday's Hurt was so well done (by the organisers not by me...) that I am making an exception. Despite living up to its name and not being a race for the faint hearted or those who don't like hills, this is a lovely, friendly race which is well run and in a lovely part of the world. The marshals were fantastic - not only did the many water stations that they manned (three per lap) provide much welcome water, gels and jelly babies but their encouragement, good humour and smiles made my limp/ battle round the hilly and technical course (twice)that little bit less "hurt"ful! Our only regret was not reading the website properly; Herbie our Springer Spaniel would have loved the Cani-cross category had we not thought he had to be left at home. We'll be back; next time with the pooch... Date of review: July 28, 2013
In short: A challenging run with lots of walking required! In full: A great event thoroughly enjoyed today. Made a nice morning out, although not as much running as I would have liked. Organisation was fab and water stops brilliant with plenty of gels and jelly babies. Could have done with another couple of loos at start but wasn't terrible. Hills are tough and hurt more on second lap but I did strangely enjoy it. Thanks to all involved. Date of review: July 27, 2013
In short: yet another great All about triathlons event In full: What a shame such bitterness about runners who got lost and their treatment from the organisers - AAT events always well organised and signposted, and what did they really expect them to do? Re run the race? If you're thinking of entering the next Hurt don't let the odd bad review put you off - just get good trail shoes, find something steep to train on, and look forward to the next two Hurts - I know I am! In short: Well organised, challenging route, beautiful trails and scenary In full: This was my first time doing The Hurt and I really enjoyed it, although possibly not during each of the climbs when my lungs and legs were screaming for me to stop! The race takes part in a beautiful part of the Surrey Hills known locally as Little Switzerland. Parking and registration was well organised and only a five minute walk from the start. Friendly marshalls, as always, and a nice medal as a memento. Ignore any reviews from the handful of clearly bitter runners who failed to take personal responsibility for following the course directions! Will definitely do this one again. In short: Hard Hills. Painful downhills. Great fun In full: Great race. My third Hurt and they never fail to do literally that. Friendly helpful marshals, great atmosphere and an incredibly challenging run.
Sadly, looking through the reviews it seems someone had a bad race and is flaming it for absolutely no reason. Personally I think it is a great race. Having the ability to follow illuminous signs with arrows is quite normal in races so I managed to do the 12k without getting lost.
In short: Hilly In full: My race today was great, I ran the 12k and thoroughly enjoyed myself. The scenery is lovely, its set in a glorious part of the Surrey Hills. As usual we were clapped around the course by cheery marshals and great home made cakes at the end. The car park was sensibly away from the course start which allowed for regular Hurtwood users ( mountain bikers, dog walkers and the like) to park as usual and not be effected too much by those doing the race. I believe that there was an issue with some of the front runners taking a wrong turn. I was running on my own ( if you know what I mean, I am a bit slower and so the field is more spread out ;-) but encountered no problems, and so can only comment on the race I myself ran although I can appreciate the frustration of those who were involved. For me, I had a great time and I always appreciate a Saturday race as Sunday races are not always easy for me to attend. Date of review: June 15, 2013
