In short: I love this race!!! In full: This race has it all - my third year now and it's just brilliant! Great facilities at the start (ample parking, proper loos, places to change), well organised at the start and finish with fan marshals on the course. The course itself is TOUGH but it's so lovely - really pretty, no boring bits at ALL, except for that horrible drag from 7-8 miles which always kills me!! All the ups are compensated by some awesome downs to get your pace back down again, and varied, pretty scenery throughout. It's really cheap, the t-shirt is fab, and generous prizes for a small race with category awards too. Friendly, fun, well run and cheap - it ROCKS! I will always come and do this race every year! In short: Very well organised, a nice course, would recommend In full: While not necessarily a PB course, the route was interesting with decent hills but nothing too onerous, with a nice downhill last mile to smash it. Excellent marshalling and organisation, as you would expect from club organised event with a long history. The parking was very straight forward which made life easy, results were quickly published. A good event as a sharpener for an Autumn half and beyond. Thanks LBAC!! Date of review: September 23, 2014
In short: Excellently organised race, challenging but scenic In full: First time doing this race, using it as a warmup for the Birmingham half marathon. Very well organised, especially at the crossing points with great marshalling.
It is quite a challenging circuit with plenty of hills - but all the steepest inclines are quite short and followed pretty much immediately by a descent of equal gradient. This gave good incentive to push through the hill and get your breath back afterwards! Whilst most people were talking about the Shenley Hill just before the 9-mile point, it was the hill between 7 and 8 miles that I found the most difficult - not too steep but seemed to last forever.
Scenery was fantastic, particularly from 3-7 miles. Good value with nice t-shirt, shame about the lack of a medal but at £16 this is one of the cheaper races to enter. Only minor criticism (nothing to do with the race organisers though) was the lack of support from some of the villages we ran through - would have improved the atmosphere but I guess it was early on a Sunday morning.
Overall, really enjoyed this and would definitley race it again, either as a stand-alone event or as a warmup for another Autumn half marathon. Date of review: September 23, 2014
In short: Brilliant! In full: I did this as it was local to me and I saw it advertised. It was brilliant. I emailed a few days as being new to racing I wasn't sure to expect as every race is different. I got a reply the same day explaining everything I needed. On race day the start was well sign posted and easy to find, I could get my number easily and the T shirt was lovely and bright (it also washes well) The race marshalling was excellent, I was running near the back there were loads of marshalls and each one of them was cheerign for each runner as they ran past. THis was such a boost for me as I am a newbie. the water stations were good with plently of water and willing volunteers. there is a steep hill at mile 8/9 but apart from that the course is great and I felt very safe runing the course. A huge thank you to those involved and this just proves small local races are they way to go rather than the huge sponsored races. See you next year at the Leighton 10! Date of review: October 4, 2013
