In short: Great location, easy parking and a few decent hills In full: This is my kind of event. Small enough so it isn't all cluttered but big enough for decent facilities. Location is picturesque as is the rural Wiltshire course. Parking was a breeze (I used Sainsburys). Chip and number collection dodle. Nice medal and T at end. Very friendly marshals (thanks).
Course is hilly at times. Hill starting 1.5m being the toughest but ok. After that a few ups and downs to keep it all working. The last bit off-road/track into the town was fine as dryish but I wouldn't have liked it in road shoes on a wet day.
Thoroughly good event in a great location and a dreadful PW for me.
(Future runner advice: dodge the portaloos at race HQ and use the toilets in West Central Car Park - near Sainsbury. Empty and the cleanest ever I've been in I think. Well worth the 20p!) Date of review: April 12, 2016
In short: Loved it In full: A fairly challenging course but scenic and friendly. Loved the event HQ area, Villiage green with the church bells in the background (The beautiful sunshine helped I'm sure). Good organisation. Descent medal and a T shirt thrown in. Good value friendly race, I'd definitely run it again Date of review: April 11, 2016
In short: Friendly, scenic but them hills.... In full: Well run event, 400 took part on the day so the smallest half I have taken part in which was a bit intimidating before but needn't have worried, really friendly sparse crowd as country lanes but they made up for this with enthusiasm. Nearly died on the hills (three to worry about), but then again I am not used to that and ended with a quicker time than the Bath Half a few weeks ago! Would recommend this to anyone, just respect the up and down-ness and you will have a great experience. Date of review: April 10, 2016
In short: Excellent HM around the Wiltshire countryside In full: This is a good race - small and friendly with a good mix of standards. A medal, tech t-shirt and water bottle plus a few other bits at the end make it good value. Quite a queue at the toilet could be easily sorted with a mens urinal - as pointed out.
The main hill on the course is at 2 miles, so plenty of time to recover from it. A few other mild undulations (nothing too taxing) and some great views. Date of review: March 8, 2015
In short: Pretty good.... In full: A good course, undulating (I found it quite testing, but that might just be my age) but all runnable. Not traffic free, but quiet Sunday morning traffic caused no problems. Nice atmosphere on The Green (music etc). Water in bottles always a major plus for me (2 water stations had bottles with the sports cap thingy - +1, wish more marathons would... I digress) No changing or showers. Not enough loos even for this relatively small event - perhaps having a portaurinal thing they have at some events would be useful. On the whole a good experience, will certainly consider running here again. Date of review: March 8, 2015
In short: Really enjoyed this race today, playful and makes you work on an undulating course. Marshalls were excellent and loved the water in the water in the sports bottle at the end, nice touch. In full: Shame the race is changing to March 08th next year as already booked up for the Salisbury 10m.... which is another favorite and good event. Date of review: October 19, 2014
In short: Lovely race through country lanes, couple of sneaky hills, but next year I'm taking a canoe In full: I'm sure on a clear day the views from that first hill would be amazing, but sadly it was not to be. The weather was dreadful, which the organisers can't help, but some sort of covered changing area would have been nice. As it was I had to drive home in soaking gear wrapped in a towel. Oh and if you're going to have an event chip timed, then why not have a timing mat at the start as well? Us back-of-the-packers want accurate timings as well, you know.
The route went along mainly little country lanes, but there were a surprising number of cars going by. The marshalls were AMAZING - it was horrible running in that rain, but they were stood out in in and were all smiling, clapping and encouraging. Good work!
Oh but that hill at mile 12, on a footpath that was slippy with water & mud running down it? Not nice! Date of review: October 22, 2013
In short: A nice little event, no complaints from me. In full: Encouraging marshals, nice town, scenic course, nice medal & goodie bag, overall I would say a friendly little event which was smoothly organised. I personally did not like the off-road track near the end. The country roads around Devizes make for a picturesque course which would be more suitable for a summer or spring event. I appreciate that the organisers cannot predict the weather but the roads the course is on do get flooded in the winter which would also suggest they may wish to re-evaluate the time of the year they hold the event. Some nice pubs at the finish, next time I might make sure I finish before visiting them. Date of review: October 21, 2013
In short: Should have worn a wetsuit! In full: Great scenic route, with a couple of hills, Well marshalled throughout (Extra bonus points for smiling in the wind and rain)! Good goodie bag, Loved the pint glass. Only negative was completely out of the organisers control. The weather, was horrendous! Date of review: October 20, 2013
