In short: Not to be missed. In full: Good, fast course with encouraging marshalls and nice scenery. Good support through the lovely village of Leigh & a lovely big cheer through the finishing line. Well organised & the weather was nice too so all in all a really nice event that puts a smile on your face for the rest of the day. Count me in for the 2016 race! Date of review: November 5, 2015
In short: Mostly very enjoyable In full: Overall, a very nice race, through some pleasant countryside. One significant concerns plus couple of minor ones.
I really did not like the stretch of several hundred metres along an ultra narrow pavement bounded on one side by quite a busy road and the other by trailing brambles. Feels like accident waiting to happen.
Start arrangements could have been clearer and person giving instructions needs a louder voice - or, more likely, a megaphone.
I was confused by the downloadable route map having completely wrong location for race HQ. Date of review: October 29, 2015
In short: Not perfect but I enjoyed it In full: I picked up my number with no problems but there was quite a walk to the start. It should be better next year when they can use the school again which is very much closer. The start was a little chaotic as there was no real indication of where the start line was and the race director didn’t have a megaphone so we couldn’t hear him. The course was mainly good — country lanes with very little traffic, quite undulating, but the final stretch was on a ridiculously narrow path on a busy road. Good km markers, efficient and friendly marshals, good 5k water station. Unfortunately there was no water left at the end. I did just under 60 minutes so the water must have run out quite early. The chip timing was good (I much prefer when it is built into the race number as was the case here) and published on-line on the same day. The other runners were very friendly. So all-in-all, although there were a few issues, I did enjoy the race and would do it again. Date of review: October 28, 2015
In short: Get your start line sorted In full: The route is as good as any other, the registration was fine but if you want people to come back you need to sort out your start. Even the word START and a line drawn across the road would be better than nothing. And you need to get your marshalls at the start earlier. Two minutes before the race start isn't good enough. In short: Great first effort for this new event In full: Nice to have a new local event. Pretty much no frills, ie no finish clock, but very good supportive Marshalls. Route is mainly rural and flat with a couple of short climbs. Final footpath stretch through Hildenborough could get interesting if many people on it at once, as its a narrow stretch. Chose to run on road myself. Good event, mixed (very) fast people and beginners. Will be back next year. Good value as well, which is rare to say these days. Mental horse/rider combo added interest, but thats the nature of the quiet lanes used for the race. Date of review: March 18, 2013
In short: A fast course, but my safety is more important to me than a PB In full: Most of the last km was on a very narrow path on a busy road. Not only could this hold you up but a stumble and you could be under a car. Then the nervous horse on the course, that looked like it was going to start kicking was also a concern. The rider's lack of sense at what was happening isn't the race organisers fault but it would have been nice to see the Marshal, 50 metres away, deal with it better. These problems far outweigh the teething problems others have mentioned that you could easily forgive, even though they were disappointing. Date of review: March 17, 2013
In short: Well done on your first attempt In full: A pleasant Sunday morning race through pleasant countryside with the rain just holding off. There were 2 gradual climbs but they were the type that any reasonably fit person could deal with. The race was well organised and glad to report no vehicular problems. There was a small problem with a horse which was not under full control by its owner and this does reflect the potential damage a spooked horse could do. Fortunately it all came to nothing. Overall a lovely race. Hope to return next year. Date of review: March 17, 2013
In short: 1st year for this 10k. Great effort In full: This was the 1st staging of the Tonbridge 10k and was a very friendly and well organised race with the potential to be really great in years to come. Well done to all the organisers and volunteers. The race HQ was well organised and had tea and biscuits too for a small donation. Very welcome at the end!
It was only a small race so yes there wasn't really a proper marked out start line but I'm sure as the race gets bigger then more funds will be available to address this. The course itself was well marked out with marshals at the key junctions. The route itself is mainly on quiet country lanes with just a couple of slight inclines and a slightly steeper one at 7.5km but nothing to be concerned with. The final 2km is flat with the last 400m pretty much downhill so definitely PB potential.
Well done to the organisers as the route is fantastic and hopefully there will be a bigger field next year as this race deserves support. Date of review: March 17, 2013
In short: Enjoyable run. A clock at the finish line would have been good! In full: An interesting route along quiet lanes. Good organisation at the HQ but a more obvious start line would have been helpful. The marshalls were encouraging along the route. A clock at the finish line is a must, as not everyone wears watches when they run! Date of review: March 17, 2013
