In short: Very well organised (pre and post race both excellent) In full: Really enjoyed the event. Very well organized, with meet and finish at the football stadium which can easily accommodate the 1800 runners and friends. Plenty of loos, somewhere warm to gather before and after the race (very important this year as weather was awful). The course is flat and fast. Thought the weather would scupper a PB but knocked 4 mins off my previous best stadium. Plenty of water stations and great to finish in the Stadium. The stadium is very easy to access via motorway links so no delays arriving or leaving. Would definitely like another go next year. Date of review: May 18, 2015
In short: Everything was excellent about the race In full: Have never entered a race that is as well organised as this. What you didnt know at the start wasn't worth knowing. Frequent emails to inform on all that was going on behind the scenes and important information. Marshals were excellent despite the weather they were very supportive and had smiles on their faces. Great finish as well and being the first local runner to the finish had a great welcome into the stadium. Don't know any way that this can be improved. Keep up the good work!! In short: Except for the long walk to the start an excellent event In full: Except for the long walk to the start and the grass path to get over the road bridge a very good course where PB's should be on the cards. Weather wet and windy on the day but clearly not in the organiser's control. Will certainly do this one again. Date of review: May 9, 2015
In short: Now in its 4th year, this race has kept on improving and I think it is the best half in the UK by far In full: Now in its 4th year this race just keeps on getting better and better, the organisation of the race was very slick and ran like clockwork despite the shocking weather conditions. Runners received regular informative e-mails prior to the race. The Race HQ was also well organised with a number of great bargains to be had. The water stations were well space out and the jelly bean station at the half-way point is always a welcome sight. The introduction of a sponge station this was also excellent (even though the runners has their fair share of water due to the heavy rain. The marshalls on the course were again second to none and all offered support and encouragement to all runners. I have run in a number of half marathons across the country and I have to say that this half marathon has become one of my favourite (if not the favourite) half marathon and will definitely be signing up for the 5th year as soon as entries open again in the new year. The goody bag keeps getting better with another great t-shirt and superb medal, there were also lots of goodies which made the overall package excellent value for money. Well done to all who were involved in organising and running the event. Roll on 2016 Date of review: May 9, 2015
In short: Fantastic race for any ability In full: This is a fantastic course for all abilities as it is super flat! Would recommend to any of those chasing a PB or newbies alike.
Masses of updates which I loved - some did not, but I guess they're the people who ignored the information and asked questions already answered. Chip and bib sent in the post as well, I like to be prepared rather than pick it up on the day.
Around 2000 runners braved horrific conditions to run this and it sold out very quickly, which says how highly it is rated. Think its one of the top rated races by RW readers(?)The rain meant the race was slightly delayed due to lateness of some runners. Also, this meant the half way time was not held and was simply a clock, which was a shame but did not have an effect.
Still quite a lot of people out supporting considering the weather, which was good to see. Good finish in the stadium and on to the goody bag...holy moly I have never been so impressed!
To be greeted with the choice of a chocolate or lemon muffin at the finish line was great (very tasty), in the bag was a t-shirt, medal, galaxy chocolate bar, bag of golden wonder crisps, vouchers and reflective armband. This is in addition to water and Lucozade! Don't think I missed anything? Anyway, fantastic value and shows other half marathons up and that they could do more if sourced correctly.
Only gripe is the running on the grass was a little unsafe but if it was warm and dry like it should be at the start of May it would be perfect! PB for me by the way as well, would have been quicker too if it wasn't for the weather and wanting to save myself for Leeds Half.
Has to be my joint favourite race, great work guys and massive thanks to organisers, helpers and volunteers! Date of review: May 5, 2015
