In short: A challenging race, but good times still possible In full: A very well organised race, with nice touches such as the friendly ladies serving teas and cake from the pavilion, and supervised baggage storage including keys. This is the first race that I have been to that labelled keys! Parking was hassle free which is always a blessing.
The course was hilly, as promised, with lots of fast downhills, making up for the tough ups. The Marshalls were all very friendly and supportive, drinks stations sensibly spaced out, and two Jelly Baby staions which were very welcome.
Results were on line in the afternoon, which was very impressive.
There were three of us running from my club, and we will try and recruit more for next year. It's a pity that there were only 206 runners, and I hope that won't put you off holding the race again next year. Date of review: August 4, 2014
In short: challenging race In full: This was my first 10 mile race.quite a hilly race on a mixture of surfaces lanes, tracks and paths.you have to be careful of the lose stones on tracks and large roots on the woody sections. Having taken a heavy fall few weeks ago, I was weary of the fast downhill sections. All that said it's a great course and some lovely scenery. The organisation was brilliant. the Marshalls were friendly and very supportive. There were 3 much needed water stations and a Marshall with jelly babies that was a nice touch. All rounded off with a great medal.
In short: The hardest but most beautiful 10 miler around !!! In full: Did this one last year and came back for more so glad i did too. I had forgotten how tough it is in places but the scenery is just breathtaking , the marshalling and general organisation is good and friendly and the unique medal ( changed completely from last year ) is stunning someone had put some effort in the design. All these ingredients make for a must do race every year from now on - really well done Liss runners !!! Date of review: August 3, 2014
In short: Great course with good organisation and fantastic marshals throughout the course. Plenty of water stations.Great medal. Overall hills a little challenging but great race. Date of review: August 3, 2014
In short: challenging, but fantastic route and great atmosphere In full: What a great race. I'd done Liss Runners previous Milland 14miler a few times and that was a beast, so I wasn't expecting an easy run. I found this a really fair test though. Miles 5-7 were, as predicted, a tough old slog up a continuous incline. However don't be fooled into thinking that that the rest is flat. Other than that tough 2miles though, the hills come and go in a rolling fashion giving you some recovery time between efforts. Lovely fast last mile to nip a bit off the time! This is not one for a PB, but you will come away having tested yourself, seen some lovely scenery, and pushed the old legs a bit.
Mix of hard tracks, some road, and paths - doable in road trainers if it's not bucketed down and you are weighing up the cushioning vs grip question.
Definitely one for the planner next year. Great marshalls, well organised, three well placed water stations, and excellent cake at the end! Date of review: August 3, 2014
In short: Challenging but a great run In full: This is a lovely trail race in beautiful English Downs. I ran last year and came back for more. The organisation is brilliant and the marshals could not be better. Thank you. Good water stops too. The lack of horse movements did improve my time this year. The tough mile 5 to 7 remains the great challenge but felt better this year. I love the finishing mile all down hill. Great race beautifully organised and welcoming. Thank you again. In short: Horse free for 1 year In full: After the pain of last year a slighter cooler day and knowing the course made a huge difference. Brilliant organisation, fantastically cheerful marshals and water stops. Even Brownies with jelly babies??..... Not a route to be taken lightly but that's the price you pay for such a beautiful run. Looking forward to next year! Date of review: August 3, 2014
In short: EVIL COURSE BUT A GREAT DAY In full: Agree with the other comments. Brilliant organising, signage and marshalls. Plenty of water on a hot day. Scenery as good as it gets in SE of England but crikey those hills were killers. The long one at 8 miles nearly finished me off! Train hard for this folks. Fun runner/beginners should be warned!
I agree with Gary McCawley about the horse incident. The lady did not use common sense and could've waited a few minutes for the race to pass. She wouldn't have dragged her horses into the road if cars had been passing? "This is the countryside" she yelled. Yes thats right - our countryside as well, not just yours.
We then all passed some sensible horse riders a mile later with no issues. Anyway it was a minor issue on a tough but excellent day. Date of review: August 6, 2013
