In short: EVIL COURSE BUT A GREAT DAY In full: Agree with the other comments. Brilliant organising, signage and marshalls. Plenty of water on a hot day. Scenery as good as it gets in SE of England but crikey those hills were killers. The long one at 8 miles nearly finished me off! Train hard for this folks. Fun runner/beginners should be warned!
I agree with Gary McCawley about the horse incident. The lady did not use common sense and could've waited a few minutes for the race to pass. She wouldn't have dragged her horses into the road if cars had been passing? "This is the countryside" she yelled. Yes thats right - our countryside as well, not just yours.
We then all passed some sensible horse riders a mile later with no issues. Anyway it was a minor issue on a tough but excellent day. Date of review: August 6, 2013
In short: Hard work going up - a dream coming down In full: Really great race. Blessed by the weather and wonderful scenery. Clearly marked on interesting trails, well marshalled with a downhill, hell for leather final kilometre run at 5k pace right to the finish line. Superb homemade cakes at the end. Worth the drive from Teddington Date of review: August 5, 2013
In short: Damned hard work but truly worth it!! In full: Having done the South Downs Half in June i recognised parts of this course and shouldve remembered that hard slog up to Ditcham Park School at mile 5 -7 !! Am getting fed up walking it so i must respect this course more and train harder for this race . Great scenery fantastic marshalling well signposted and a fabulous last mile downhill - the best last mile in a race ive ever done. A great new race to put in the diary even though I hated it at the time! ( my fault like i said need to train for the hills more - doh! ) Lovely medal - love getting medals and this one is certainly unique. Well done friendly Liss Runners. Date of review: August 4, 2013
In short: Really enjoyed it. In full: very pleased that I made the effort to come, no problem finding the venue, combination of sat nav and reading the map supplied meant I came straight to the venue. Shame about the horse incident, neither the horse owner nor some of the runners came out of that very well.Bit more common sense on both sides required! Perhaps need to write to house owners on route to warn them, not just relying on notices. Marshalls were helpful and pleasant and managed to lie convincingly!! Great course, will be back. In short: What's the date for next year? I want to do it again. In full: My first 10 mile race and what a cracker. Glorious route, expertly marked out and marshalled. A magnificent setting for the race HQ. Loved it all. Even the aching bits afterwards (let nobody tell you this is flat!). Bring on next year. (There will be next year won't there?)
