In short: A Great event to start the year with! In full: All due credit to Burnham Joggers for keeping this event going for at least 25 years to my knowledge despite increasingly severe weather conditions in recent years (if it’s not snow, it was nearly rained off this year!)
Against the great historic backdrop of Cliveden House, the event starts and finishes on the gravel drive to the stately house and takes in the beautiful National Trust country estate with a very challenging course, which zigzags up and down on the steep hillside above the River Thames. The endurance highlight must be two climbs of a very long flight of steps cut into the hillside leading from the river up to Cliveden House, which had myself and most runners around me reduced to near walking pace. Cross-country studs are a must for this event!
Superb organisation and friendly support as usual from Burnham Joggers. An event to keenly anticipate every year.
In short: Really enjoyable start to the year - highly recommend In full: My second time running this race and as before came home having had a thoroughly enjoyable and rewarding morning. Organisation was superb thanks. Very friendly all the way round, both runners and marshals. Challenging and scenic. There were a couple of bottlenecks, one soon after the start going up the first proper footpath and also some people found those steps a bit too crowded but if you are not looking for a super fast time and just want a tough but enjoyable run I recommend this one. Fast people need to start off fast near the from, but slower people, please do start further back.
Many thanks for putting on the race. Date of review: January 5, 2014
In short: Scenic, hilly XC with friendly and professional organisation - lovely to start the year In full: This race has a great atmosphere, added to by the on/off nature over the past week with the weather. It is a magnificent location with the start in front of Cliveden and then through the woods and along the river. It's hilly with a long set of steps around 4km and then again at 9km. The marshals were excellent and the whole event was great. Date of review: January 5, 2014
