In short: Hope this becomes a regular annual event In full: Well done Royal Wootton Bassett Hounds on the inaugural running of this very pleasant race. Actually one of the more gentle off-road races I've done with a steep hill at about 3 miles. Some lovely scenery and views of the Wiltshire countryside. Not as muddy as I expected despite the atrocious weather. Great value at just a tenner but personally I'd be happy to pay a few quid extra for a t-shirt or memento. Probably the smallest field I've seen at a race and to be honest disappointed at the attitude of some runners. When I pull over to let people run past me I expect at least a thank you or some kind of acknowledgement. At least that's how I was brought up to behave. Very friendly marshals and supporters at the end however and some lovely home-made cakes. Will definitely give this one a go again if it becomes a regular event.
In short: Quality fast XC route, but the conditions were waterlogged, boggy and windy as hell! In full: Decent route, mucky and wet - certainly would be quick if the fields were not so waterlogged which was mind-numbing as well leg zapping. The climb between 3-4 miles hurt and this race offers a perfect training springboard to longer more hilly events. Lovely cup of tea at the end to get warm, followed by a pint at the local pub. Will be back next year for another go! Date of review: February 11, 2014
In short: Mud, wind, rain, frozen, sodden fun! Oh, and CAKES! In full: First year this event has been put on and it was competing with quite a few other races. However, those of us who chose to race this one had a treat. Loved the route despite the conditions under foot and the trudge around a few fields. The wind and water under foot made it really challenging. I was on the verge of quitting due to lack of speed a few times but was actually gaining on others! Ha! Nice to have a fast finish and I actually really enjoyed the fact that there were no mile or km markers. No fancy medal or t-shirt but who needs them when you can have inexpensive fun like this. Did I mention the cakes at the end? Had the biggest slice of chocolate cake! Yum. Will be coming back next year :) Date of review: February 10, 2014
