In short: One of the ultimate races on the calender, shame it's so difficult to get in In full: This was my 8th unsuccessful ballot attempt, so I was grateful securing a club place. London is iconic for obvious reasons, a really special race. It's just such a shame more people can't experience it. The course is flat, atmosphere electric from start to finish, decent medal, goody bag and t-shirt. Just need to improve the flow at the meet up points. Still love it and cant wait to run it again Date of review: May 22, 2014
In short: What a Fantastic Day In full: Thank you London! my 4th Marathon and London topped it off. Took me 6 years to get in the Ballot and Im so glad I got in. A dream come true. I would say a TO DO before you die. A great experience. Date of review: April 23, 2014
In short: Hard to get an entry, but if you can then do it. A great reminder of why the Olympics were such a success In full: "World's best marathon" is a matter of taste: some people prefer trails, and there are prettier routes (Rome comes to mind), but it certainly deserves some consideration. The atmosphere and the organisation are as good as people say (especially a sensible system for toilets at the start). The route is interesting and faster than I expected. Congestion can be an issue but personally I didn't have an issue (started with the circa 3:30 runners). One comment to make is that while it's flipping hard to get a place, once you do it's actually really good value for money (unlike Brighton!) A range of t-shirt sizes at the end would be nice, but the one size fits all one wasn't too bad really. Oh and the Expo was possibly even better than New York's: quite some feat! This was my 14th (different) marathon race and was definitely the best supported and one of the best for value and speed. If I could only get fast enough to be 'good for age' then I'd do it every year! Date of review: April 19, 2014
In short: Exceeded my wildest dreams In full: I have wanted to do this for a long time and it lived up to all my expetations, it is busy and crowded and yes you can get blocked, but all this aside it is a fantastic event. The support is amazing and I thought the organisation incredible, 36,000 runners and I was on the start mat within 15 mins and I was well back. Unlike GNR where it cat take an hour! In short: everyone has to do this at least once In full: Grew up watching the london marathon over the years and finally got to run it.amazing atmosphere, plenty of brilliant support and scenery.medal is a piece of beautiful heavy art.some races are good to do and get ticked off.this race has to be done and done over and over Date of review: April 16, 2014
In short: Brilliant. Everything you expect and more. In full: As my first marathon I don't have another to compare it to...as if you could anyway! Amazing crowds, stunning route (well most of it) and such a great atmosphere. My only ONE gripe was the width of the course on the Isle of Dogs. It was down to one lane and despite being in the front 20%, it was really, really tight and bunched up making rhythm difficult. Seemed a bit unnecessary.
That aside it was amazing. I really had no idea how fantastic it would be. London will never look the same again.
