In short: Friendly fun but challenging race in beautiful setting In full: I did this race last year and was back again as it really is a friendly and challenging event. Managed to go wrong at one point and add a mile or so to my route but this isn't an event where I'm aiming for a PB so didn;t really matter. Tea and cakes at the end very welcome. Thanks to all the organisers and friendly marshals along the route. I'll be back next year. Date of review: September 21, 2009

In short: Great race in the countryside . In full: It's a shame that The Victory 5 has been moved to the same day, do not think that there needs to be 2 local races on the same day. Only splits the number of runners.Well done Pompey joggers Date of review: September 21, 2009

In short: Take it easy in the first few miles! In full: This was a good race, 13 miles up and down hills in the portsmouth countryside. The organisation was good and the markings were easy to follow, only went wrong once and that was my own fault really. It was fast at the front, winner ran sub 1.20, and the top 5 were well clear of the rest of us. Definately not PB material - plenty of hills and fences. Luckily for about 11 miles I was running in a pack with 2 locals who warned me when the hills were coming! Jelly babies at the water stations, which were excellently positioned, were a nice touch. Dead friendly and good encouragement from the marshalls too. Hard without being sadistic, but if you go too fast too early youre going to die a horrible, horrible death later on. This is mainly due to the fact it is hard to get into a rhythm. I had done a steeplechase the day before, and had a bit of a head cold and thus mildly dehydrated, and could really feel it in my hamstrings up some of those hills! In the end was chuffed with 6th - if I dont get re-posted because of work I'll definately do this next year Date of review: September 21, 2009

In short: Always enjoy this race over lovely chalk downland paths and tracks In full: Perhaps not a good idea after my last race was in June. Legs ached from the 3 mile point. Went well up the hills but struggled on the down. Plenty of those! Great, friendly race over lovely scenary. Signage could be better but if nobody went wrong not a problem. Looking forward to next year already! Date of review: September 21, 2009

In short: This one hurts! In full: I did the Slog (12.8 miles). I was told this was a beautiful undulating run. I'm not going to deny that the scenery was beutiful but anyone that tells you it's undulating feel free to kick them in the shins. I would have enjoyed the scenery more if I hadn't had my head down, gritting my teeth, trying to catch my breath while running up many of the long hilly hills. At one point I swear I saw a mountain goat!
That said, I loved this race. It was a real battle but a beautiful one and the organisation was friendly and supportive. My girlfriend did the Slug and loved it. Less hills to contend with but still a great test of stamina.
I will definitely be back next year.

In short: A nice race to end the Summer season. In full: I ran the shorter Slug again this year and thoroughly enjoyed the experience.
A scenic run comprising of woodland tracks, open fields and cart tracks. Roads were kept to minimum, only being used to link up the off-road trails. The hills were challenging but not tough.
Well done to PJC for hosting. See you next year. I may even give the longer slog a go. Date of review: September 20, 2009
