In short: A decent test, worth doing again.
In full: A course with a kick at the end. Two of the course's three hills were in the final two miles which made for a tough finish. The down-to-earth organisation and a no-frills start made it a more relaxed day than some races. Easy-to-follow route, lovely weather and a good atmosphere made it easy for a Barnsley first-timer. More of a test than the Abbey Dash which is run on the same day.

In short: Good race but issues with the chip timing system
In full: 3rd time running this one and I will be back again next year. Well marshalled course and can't blame Barnsley AC for the roadworks near the finish which must have caused them a few headaches. Think there were problems with the chip timing system. I was missed off the results completely to start with and then given a time which was 10 seconds slower than I actually ran. Looking at the results, there would seem to be something strange going on as lots of chip times are slower than gun times. Surprised by how many were running with ear phones in listening to music which is dangerous on a course that is not traffic free.Maybe race referees need to start getting tough on this issue and banning ipods and the like.

In short: Worth coming back for every year
In full: I love this race. Yes the last couple of miles have a couple of hills, but hey we are up north! I ran a PB for this race this year (48.13) and got a prize for 2nd place F Vet 55 so feeling pretty good. Glorious weather (just a little cold defrosting the car before setting off!). Very friendly and as I am an unattached runner that helps! Everyone was great. Will be back in 2013 for sure.

In short: Well organised and friendly.
In full: This was my first running of the Barnsley 10k and I would do it again. The couple of hills within the run were not too difficult but some of the comments I heard after the race made it sound like some runners were expecting it to be pancake flat. The marshals and locals were typically friendly and the organisation seemed fine. The roadworks just before the end of the run made the approach to the finish a little tricky though, but all in all the race was good.

In short: Fog didnt help but the organisation was a bit flaky
In full: Never seen a finish quite like it . Cars parked made it very narrow and runners competing with cars buses etc made it less than safe. 90 degree bend 25 yards from finish

In short: fog and hills
In full: I don't like hills. I can't run up them fast enough. I want to do better on hills so entered this one to gain more hill time. With a Fetch hill score of 204 (105m up/91m down) this one had enough hills for me.
At £10 is race is at the bottom end of the entry fee scale, impressive given chip timing and tshirt (cotton not technical).
Marshals where you need them and 1 water stop(cup-so had to slow to drink).
A row of portable toilets helped keep the queue short).
Parking was mainly on side roads and on the main road where, it turned out, we had the finish. This caused a few problems with cars trying to get through a narrowed road whilst runners were 2/3/4 abreast running for the line. A bit of a shame that the finish has a slowing left hand 90 degree corner 20 metres before the chip tunnel.
