In short: Well organised value for money race In full: This was a good value race, it was well organised. The first water station was a little far away but the weather was a bit unexpected for this time of year so people noticed it more. I have done this race before and will definitely do it again. In short: Tough but worth it In full: It's a bit dispiriting when you pass the finish line for the second time but know that whilst the front runners are breaking the tape you've still got another lap to go...but that aside it's a great run. Very friendly marshals (all bar one who never spoke, moved or seemed to notice runners going by..), well-stocked water stations and plenty of support all the way round. Three laps is a bit daunting but it's nice to be able to gauge where you are and what's coming up, and it's VERY nice when you pass the 18 and 19 mile markers for real. If I'm still mad enough to want to run 20 miles for fun again I'll be back next year! Date of review: March 10, 2014
In short: Water stations every 4 miles would be a reasonable improvement. In full: Over 6 miles to the first drop of water (and a fuller cup would be welcome) seemed an odd bit of planning. Otherwise a value for money race with the showers at the leisure centre hot, clean and impressive.
The finish is a bit odd! Must be the tightest left turn I have ever had to negotiate! Friendly marshalls though! Date of review: March 9, 2014
In short: Warm weather made it harder than it should have been In full: My only complaint would be the water stations as the drinks are in cups and it's a long wait until the first one. Bottles would make it more expensive I guess. Very warm day. Some mildly challenging climbs. Date of review: March 9, 2014
In short: Cracking run brilliant organisation and a bargin!!! In full: Others could learn from this, organisation was spot on excellent marshals all the way round plenty of facilities available at race hq a free tech t shirt thrown in as well as the mug, banter and the sun shone. A bargin race that deserves all the praise it can get....
In short: Cold but brrrriliant little cheap race In full: Does exactly what it says on the tin, great training race for the big spring marathons. I really enjoyed the multi lap aspect of the course too. Only very very minor gripe is that some fellow runners seemed a little oblivious to other runners who were lapping them. Though I guess that is a sign of a good beginners race as well as a fast one :)
Special thanks to all the marshalls for being out in the cold for hours for us all today! Date of review: March 10, 2013
In short: Definitely to be recommended In full: My first time of running this race and I was very pleasantly surprised. It isn't hilly - not in my book anyway -it's more undulating, as a previous reviewer described, and it has the potential to be quite fast I'd say, as there seemed to be plenty of PBs on the day judging by the official results. The atmosphere was good, the marshalls were friendly and encouraging and I found the route enjoyable. There was water available at the end but you had to search a little for it and as has been mentioned, the availability of race mementoes was a bit uncertain but for me those minor points didn't detract from what was an enjoyable morning. All in all I'd definitely recommend this race. Date of review: March 14, 2012
In short: A good race to break up the monotony of long, lonely, training runs for a Spring marathon. In full: Loved the parking right next to the start and finish. I was bit worried about the 'hills' after reading previous year's posts but I was pleasantly surprised and would describe the course as undulating rather than hilly! Would have liked to have seen a course map before the event possibly with elevation details. Also, I collected my mug before the start but could easily have missed out - maybe you could have told people this was an option in the race details? All in all a good race to use as part of marathon training. Date of review: March 14, 2012
