In short: A brilliant warm up race with a fantastic atmosphere! In full: As a 'newbie' to racing (this was only my second race) I was very nervous about taking part here, but everyone was so friendly. It had a great atmosphere with brilliant marshalls and I thoroughly enjoyed it. The section along 'beaconside' can be a bit hairy but the rest of the scenic countryside makes up for that. I will be back in 2008! Date of review: May 27, 2007
In short: brilliant race, good marshalling, excellent water stations In full: found the marshalling to be very good, encouragement from everyone watching including other runners who were doing the relay laps. very nice to hear cheers trying to finish the 20 miles. liked the course and the layout, lap design very good. but the best bit for me was the water stations, frequent and refreshing, something i need regularly as someone who dehydrates very quickly and the little lads that helped out were brilliant. broke my personal best by nearly 10 minutes and am well on course for my sub 3:30 London. thanks to everyone involved, and i might well make the trip from Essex again next year. In short: London preparation run In full: Furthest i have ever run previous is 14.5 miles and i dreaded the extra 5.5. Add to the increased distance, the hills and i didnt sleep the night before for worry!!.
I was told on the run by a few people that this is the toughest 20 miler in the country but not sure if thats true..
So glad that i ran it and the comments that if i can run this, i can run London has doubled my confidence. Very pleased with myself that although slow i managed to run all the way...
Cant walk today though!!!! Date of review: March 12, 2007
In short: Excellent well organised race In full: I wasn't even sure that I could complete this race, never having run further than a half marathon before, so I was very pleased to do this in 2.28. I was fine up to 14 miles but then the last 6 were really tough.
The organisation was excellent, ample car parking and good showers.
In spite of the problems experienced by others, I had no trouble with the directions to this race.
A small point was the first water stop seemed a long time coming.
Pleasant atmosphere at the start and well worth doing all helped by perfect weather conditions.
The downside is I can hardly move today! Date of review: March 12, 2007
In short: Pleasant and efficiently-organised race. Hilly, and you wouldn't think it fast, but perhaps the three laps helps. In full: Pleasant and efficiently-organised race. Hilly, and you wouldn't think it fast, but perhaps the three laps helps. You know that the grim hill at 2-3 miles is going to end. Full of runners preparing for sub-3 at London. Not too lonely towards the front, because the three laps means you pass the slower runners on the third. Hideous T-shirt. Date of review: March 12, 2007
In short: Don't let the description of "undulating" put you off! In full: Great training run for a marathon, very well-marshalled and scenic in parts. I was terrified in advance as every review said "undulating". Whilst it can't really be described as flat, there isn't anything terrifying in it ... what's the worst that can happen? You take it slow, you might even feel like stopping on one of the climbs, but you get your breath back on the flat or downhill and carry on. I would definitely recommend this as a pre-marathon run ... more fun than running 20 miles on your own anyway! Date of review: March 11, 2007
