In short: Clay soil sticks to trainers like glue....
In full: and makes your feet twice as heavy!
Many of the paths were wet clay and this was tough going. It wasnt the most scenic run I've done, until you reach Robin Hoods bay, and then it's worth turning up for. The volunteers doing the catering at the end of the race were fabulous, thank you all very much.

For future I'd like to see a route in advance, instead of trying to hastily draw one onto my map before the start.

In short: This one was tough!
In full: My first attempt at this type of event and I found it really hard going, very muddy and boggy for the first seventeen miles!! but then again what did I expect in the middle of February. Reached Robin Hoods Bay to find that the coastal route back had been closed for safety reasons, so we returned by the disused railway line, I had to walk the last two miles, as by now I felt like I was wearing lead trainers. A friendly event with a mixture of walkers and runners, map skills are required. A special thank you goes to the chap who pointed me in the right direction more than once! At the end I said "never again" but.................who knows?

In short: Great fun in mud, mud and more mud!!
In full: Really scenic mix of muddy fields, muddy moors, muddy fields and muddy disused railway lines!! Throw in some navigation, streams running down many of the paths, a mixture of sunshine, wind and rain, friendly and supportive marshals at the checkpoints and you have a great day out - not to mention the hot pie, mushy peas and gravy at the finish! Challenging route if you don't like the mud, but it all adds to the fun of running outside in winter. The only shame was being redirected back along the railway line rather than the clifftop path towards the end due to excessive mud in proximity to sheer cliffs! Thanks for a very enjoyable, low-key and challenging event.

In short: Hard but great fun
In full: It must be fun - took over 2 hours more than I would have done on road, but was a really enjoyable challenge.
