In short: Lots and lots of hills - a bit of everything by the sea In full: tough if you are only used to road races. if you're more experienced with fell running then its perhaps not too bad. Date of review: July 11, 2013
In short: d In full: I read an earlier comment that stated probably the hardest that they had done in 31/2 years of running and I absolutely agree. I did no where near enough training but I will be back next year. The organisation is excellent and on an incredibly hot Saturday afternoon with not a cloud in the sky the hosing down by the Fire Brigade was worth all of the pain. Date of review: July 5, 2011
In short: Some big hills, very hot, makes for a good challenge In full: Opted to do this for some more hill training, the first hill at about 0.5 miles was fairly steep and lasted for about half a mile, it was undulating and took you over stiles, through cow fields and some lovely footpaths.
I found the heat to be a killer, along with the descents. I have aches 3 days later when normally I don't ache at all. Would do it again though, makes a nice day out Date of review: July 5, 2011
In short: Excellent race. A very warm afternoon. Amazing views. In full: Weather was 100% on Saturday. Not really hot, but still great for spectators. This is a race that gives the excuse to visit the coast for the weekend. Very dry underfoot gave perfect running conditions. Look forward to doing it again next year. Date of review: July 4, 2011
In short: Very tough race, but fantastic views In full: Finish was a bit anti-climatical despite the firemen hosing people down - no memento and tunnel for finish was very tight. This is the toughest race that I have done (so far anyway), but probably par for the course for experienced fell runners. You can see from the finish times how hard the multiple climbing and stile hopping actually is (8 mile course average finish time 1:20). Great to have run this on such a glorious day and to be cheered on by the walkers along the route. Date of review: July 4, 2010
In short: Hilly doesn't cover it ! But feels good to finish it, can't be that hot next year ?! In full: Great value, nice to be able to buy a memento at the end rather than getting given another medal. If it helps keep the cost of the race down then great. Date of review: July 3, 2010
In short: Were there any flat bits at all?? Loved it! In full: Amazing scenery made up for the fact that almost everyone I spoke to walked some of this course. It's TOUGH! Lovely friendly race and the sea at the finish made for a convenient alternative ice bath. Date of review: August 1, 2009
In short: Glorious scenery, hard work In full: This was my favourite ever run, but I think the hardest race I have done in 3 1/2 years of running! The scenery was spectacular and the course well-marshalled. Plenty of friendly support along the way, just where it was needed (very dedicated of people to walk up all those hills). Thanks to the organiser, who kindly sorted out my mislaid number two days beforehand.
In short: Big hills (up and down!) but amazing scenery In full: Really fabulour race but not for the faint hearted. Yes no medal at the end but you had the option to buy a commerative mug (and as many cuppas as you could drink to fill it!). Think the scenery made up for the lack of a medal that you just chuck in a drawer anyway. Well organised and the sea dip (optional!) at the finish was a great relief - would definately do it again!
