In short: Just loved this, my first fell race. My favourite race of all time. In full: I have wanted to do this race for a few years but have never considered myself fit enough. I was very apprehensive, as I haven't run for 4 weeks due to injury, but I absolutely loved it.It starts and ends at the gorgeous and very traditional village fete and goes through beautiful countryside, woods, hills and even a shallow river. It is challenging but great fun and the trout was lovely. I couldn't fault it and even the weather was perfect. Date of review: June 1, 2013
In short: Hard but glorious. And an edible memento! In full: My 3rd race for my new club. Very steep hills (the only thing missing form the downhill at the start was a gig roll of cheese), running through a stream, varying terrain, stunning scenery, great fete with nice local beer.... more of an event than just another race. The comment in another review (see below) about the race being full is not true, it was announced on the internet well in advance of the race. Date of review: June 5, 2011
In short: This is what running is all about, forget fast times and just enjoy In full: Wow, first time I have run this event and will be back next year to try and get under 1hour. I did a lot of walking but then so did everyone else around me. The scenery is just stunning with steep fields, woodland trains, a river crossing....times are irrelevant. Just enjoy. the cat and dog shared the trout afterwards. As a ruough guide my 10k PB is 47:38, my 9km time for this event was 1 hour 2 minutes, although I did forget my fell running shoes and ended up running in an 6 year old pair of walking shoes with no grips :o/ Date of review: June 4, 2011
In full: the organisers would do well to inform potential competitors in advance that if no entries are possible on the day, they shouldn't suggest otherwise on the application form or advertised websites, and if the race sells out 3 weeks before it is run, as we were told when we arrived, to inform them on the websites the race is advertised on.
Failure of the above is just rank discourtesy. Date of review: June 8, 2010
In short: has become an annual event for my family and friends In full: forgot just how many sharp hills there were in this race, so found it tough running. but this is a fell race and even though it has been warm for about 5 weeks there was still a run through a bog, a 5m run across a river, run across moorlands and through woodlands. Eveything you could want from a fell race.
the fete is also a favourite with the family while they wait for me to finish.
In short: A perfect day out. In full: I became very aprehensive about this as the heat was oppressive at the start. It was warm and it was tough but much of the run is in the shade of trees and when we emerged on the moorland there was some cooling breeze.
A really beautiful run (makes you want to come back with a picnic), well organised and with a terrific fete for the rest of the family. Date of review: June 6, 2010
In short: Carlsberg don't do races but if they did........................ In full: I love this event. By far my favourite event of the year. I've been injured all year, I'm full of lurgy at the moment and I've run today my personal worst here but who cares. Running doesn't get any better than this. This race gets you back to what running is about, forget getting hung up on times and just run for the pure enjoyment of it. Up and down suicidal hills, through rivers and mud and enjoy the best of the Cheshire Countryside. Add into that a perfect day - everytime I run this race the weather is glorious, plus a fantastic village fete straight out of the Victorian era to keep the family entertained. The trout tasted great on the BBQ tonight, plus we got there early to catch a few extra ourselves at the trout farm. A great day out. See you in 2011!!!! Date of review: June 5, 2010
In short: Glorious English countryside In full: Great race with a lovely atmosphere. Very well organised, with a reserve list too. I loved the very traditional village fete. Just one tiny critisism of the day - wouldn't it be better to have the race a little earlier, so that runners could enjoy more of the fete? I felt I was missing out on the fete by running! Wonderful day though. Thanks to all involved. Date of review: June 3, 2009
