In short: far to expensive- not value for money In full: Race was shortened due to snow and rain at 800m Garburn pass is just over 400 needless to say the snow drifts were passable, and the rain slightly wet. Over reaction spoilt 6 months of training especial for the event. will never give lakeland trails any money ever again - totally over priced, don't get anything for your money except a crappy quality t-shirt that costs less than a quid to print. even charged £2 extra to park in a field- surely the £25 should cover this guys!!! what a bad show! In short: Ripped off by vo2 max events again! In full: Every time i've entered an even organised by VO2 Max events i've been really looking forward to it, and then felt throughly ripped off on the day. This is because you are basically paying for someones salary rather than the actual costs of running an event. There are other races around which cost no where near as much as these, and are equally as good for scenery, route, and atmosphere. Having been dissapointed again, there is no way VO2 max will be getting any of our groups money ever again- It's a shame the lakeland trails which started off as a nice friendly set of races have evolved into a highly commercial enterprise. RIP-OFF Date of review: June 16, 2009

In short: A great race with challenging terrain In full: This was the second time that the organisers of this race had been seriously thwarted by the weather. The first was at Coniston in october 2008. I can only wholeheartedly applaud their ability to listen to those who advise them and then take the hard decisions necessary. I had a fun race despite the shortened route. The food at the end was very welcome. It isnt cheap and that is one of the reasons I actually turned up on the day or I might have been tempted to give it a miss! Date of review: June 11, 2009

In short: Still a great day out despite necessary switch to 'wet weather alternative' route - which is a great run in its own right In full: This year, the weather forecast was dire for race day so the organisers took the decision to re-route at lower level. This was necessary to ensure the safety both of runners and marshalls. As it turned out, the weather was less severe than forecast and this contributed to the disappointment felt by many arriving after the early morning downpours had subsided who thought the decision was overly cautious. Perhaps the evening headlines regarding groups of runners being rescued in Snowdonia on the same day gave a glimpse of what could have been? This really was a case of 'damned if they do and damned if they don't' - I was up for going over Garburn but I fully respect the decision taken and give Graham due credit for making the decsion as late as possible and sticking to it. I understand that the numbers relieved by the route change are at least comparable with those who were upset.
Of course, the reduced route meant we got less for our money (but getting everybody home safely surely doesn't have a price) but we did still get the vast majority of what we hope for at these events. There was still a great feeling among runners and supporters before and immediately after the race, registration was quick&easy, parking was easy, there were enough loos, the post race feed was tasty and just what was needed and the marshalls were superb throughout. Even the shortened route was a great run in itself with Reston Scar providing the sting in the tail that we used look forward to going over Orrest Head to Windermere.
This is the first time it has rained at Garburn - is it too much to hope for sunshine at Derwentwater? Date of review: June 11, 2009

In short: very dissapointed. In full: The weather was bad (but not that bad)so i thought the shortening of the course was a complete overreaction. It completely ruined the race for me.
very expensive and just one water station on the revised route. Despite what the organisers say, theres very little to do at the start/finish line area.
£26 + £2 parking and felt no different to just running round hills for free

In short: Fabulous, despite the foul weather and shortened course In full: As others have explained, the route was shortnened on account of the unseasonal weather. I entered the 'Challenge' event for steadier types who want to enjoy the scenery. Thought it was marvellous! I'll guiltily confess to being relieved they took out the pass - I was intimidated as hell by the weather and not sure how i'd handle the conditions on the day. I thought they made a smart choice. Lovely atmosphere and truly *FABULOUS* marshalls. Just as with Hawkshead last year, this is a cracking event. I'll be back next year to do another in the series. Thanks all. In full: The basic race is good , but the price for what you get is a total rip off . The team prize was a pair of small socks each ! The wait for the prize giving was well over 2 hours . No chip timing , so mistakes . £28 for this they must be joking . Cut race short for safety , fair comment for novices , a shame for experienced fell runners . Date of review: June 10, 2009

In short: Excellent event - as usual In full: Great run - as tough as I'd expected and thoroughly enjoyed it (even the uphill bits I didn't think I was enjoying at the time!) Thanks to all the team for another great day. Date of review: June 9, 2009

In short: Brilliant despite the weather In full: The shorter route suited me fine as didn't feel up to 24k.The weather totally different to last year but still made for a good day out.Brill organisation especially with the changes made early on.A lady in front of me collecting her number was quite rude to one of the helpers on registration - totally uncalled for, its not their fault the weather was pants. Can't wait for Derwentwater.
