In short: Good race despite the monsoon weather! In full: I signed up for this race as it fitted in with attending a nufc home match. It also has an excellent chip timed junior race.
The adult race has a good mix of runners of all standards. V friendly atmosphere. It is chip timed although there is no mat at the start so get near the front if wanting a pb attempt!! 3 and a bit times around the park- don't usually like loops but was good as meant you got to know what was coming if like me you hadn't ran the course before.
I have enclosed the garmin route so you can see for yourself the 'undulations'. Good route traffic free and no major runner congestion. Lots of local support in spite the weather. Shot glass and whiskey reward and chip time given immediately. Steve cram happened to be there watching his daughter and shouted me on so was v chuffed. No pb ( about 1 min down due to 'bumps' and weather.

In short: Undulating is definitely the word In full: The 3-lap nature means that you're going to get very friendly with every up and down on this playful course. I suppose there were some flat bits but I barely saw them. There again, it was raining throughout and I may just have been concentrating on not giving up the ghost. Even a slide on the waterlogged section after the finish couldn't dampen the mood for me. Wonderful organisation and lovely welcoming marshals and fellow runners-exactly what a Southerner visiting the North expects. Date of review: December 22, 2012

In short: hilly but historic run in a lovely park In full: My first time for this race and I picked the 100th year of the event! Despite the icy conditions the wonderful team of Saltwell Harriers had gritted all the route, there was a lovely warm registration room with excellent cakes and coffee, the marshals were superb throughout, and we even had the Mayor to start the race.Lovely100 year memento of a miniature whiskey in an engraved shot glass. The route does have some sharp twists and hills, so not one for a PBS, although Ryan Mc Cleod managed to break his record. Thanks to all concerned for a great race. Date of review: December 22, 2011

In short: 100 year old race needing improvement In full: After 100 years experience the prize giving is unnecessarily late. Number of entries are limited, but website not updated to inform if full or not. Nothing to the contrary on the web so travelled to enter, but told that full and no late entries. I would have to wait till half hour beofre start to find out if can enter. Not acceptable especially when travelling some distance. Date of review: December 17, 2011

In short: Friendly marshalls - tough course! (Maybe I'm saying that because it was freezing cold and December!) In full: 3 and a half laps of the park - was tough but fun. Great spot prizes - makes us all feel like we've got a chance of winning something! Date of review: December 18, 2010

In short: PEOPLE WHO TAKE SHORT CUTS SHOUDL BE DISQUALIFIED In full: This is a race my and my family attended every year since 1997. But never have a been so appalled. The organisers did not disqualify the woman who finished "3rd", when she took a wrong turn against the marshal's instruction and continued. Then again marshal competence needs to brought into question. She rejoined the race ahead of all the other women. It took them (the 2 leading women) at least 4km to catch her. 10 metres ahead of the 4th women when she took the short cut, but 1minutes and 25 seconds ahead of the 4th women 1km down the road. 4th women eventually finished 38 seconds behind her. Organisers say that the referee felt this the woman had no advantage over 4th place by taking the short cut. I ask you 10 metres (approx 4 seconds) to 1min25sec 1km further with 4th place closing the gap with every step. I know there was at least 1min30sec advantage. When time permits I will be doing the exercise to check the distance advantage and passing it onto Saltwell Harriers. Perhaps they will need to reassess the use of their referee and his/her basis of "reason".
As mentioned previously, we as a family have supported this race for many years and as disappointed that no attempt was made to eradicate the possibility or anyone taking short cuts. Date of review: December 19, 2009

In short: Cold. In full: As far as the overall package goes i was slightly disappointed by this. I couldn't get parked in the Park so had to leave the car about 10 mins walk away. There were no baggage facilities at the race HQ and the one male toilet was blocked by, what looked like, a tree stump! Perhaps i'm moaning slightly because i've not beaten my pb when i was expecting to do so......i found the course hard work, particularly as we had to up that bloody hill 3 times! Miniature whisky and shot glass at the finish.....ugh, i hate the stuff. But the marshalls were good, and they did a good job clearing the snow and gritting the route. Whinge, whinge, moan, moan i'll probably be back next year! Date of review: December 19, 2009
