In short: My first race went very well, with a reasonable time too!!
In full: First ever race, thought the start was poorly managed and timings were inaccurate but a good day all in all. Managed a time of 46.57 so pretty pleased with that for a first time outing.

In short: Loved it
In full: This used half of the Blackpool Marathon route, which I’d only just done 4 weeks previously. But whilst that was a slightly disappointing experience, this was more enjoyable. More spectators along a shorter route created a better atmosphere, and having to only run twice along the ‘Golden Mile’ - past the Tower & Pleasure Beach - made it more scenic. The route is so flat it could only bettered by a running track and there was even a descent onto the middle prom for the finish. With 3,500 participants - dozens in fancy dress - music blasting out at the start and a band playing half-way along, there was quite a party mood. The only goodies at the end were a quality medal & a bottle of water, but then the race is so cheap to enter (£9.50) who cares? The only very minor gripes I have were the congested start and finish, with some novice runners starting way too near the front, and at the finish several of us were grouped together with our finishing time. Overall all though it was a cracking occasion and I’ll probably be back next year, the only question is whether to try and beat my PB or wear fancy dress!

In short: Could do better with timings and start groupings.
In full: This was my first 10k race and i was a little disappointed with the organisation, there were only 2 areas at the start one for the serious runners (sub 40min only they said) and another for fun runners, i didn't want to get in the way of the serious runners group as i was aiming for sub 50min so I joined not far from the front of the fun runners but there was 2min on the clock an we'd hardly moved! i had to run on the tram lines to get past the crowd which were at walking pace and cost me lots of time. If they grouped the runners in sub 40, 45, 50, etc would be much better. Oh and people crossing the road getting in everyones way was annoying! Didn't get a PB, time was 51:45, nice medal tho.

In short: Shame about the scruffy seafront, but thoroughly enjoyed it.
In full: Excellent organisation. Course is perfect for a PB (got one yesterday)but it is a bit of a straight drag past a time warp sea front, littered with hungover party people lubricating their tonsils with their first beers of the day! The end was a bit of a bottle neck and the time i have been awarded is slower than the time i actually did (although this happens at a lot of races). Sounds like a bit of a moan but i DID enjoy my first Blakpool run. Congrats to the organisers.
