In short: some choices to be made for a better event in 2008 In full: There are a few choices to be made here to ensure the continued faithful support of this race:-
I have supported this event for the past 6 years and each year has slipped slightly with regard to organisation.
1. entries on the day don't mean 5 minutes before the start! That's why there was a delay at the start and why there was some grumblings from some participants. If they can't be there on time - tough! We'd travelled over 1 and a half hours and we were there in plenty of time.
2. should decide if entries on the day should actually count for prizes - I mean come on you have until 1 week before to decide if you're coming or not! This would definitely help with the delay after the race waiting around for the presentation and then not getting it right (missing the winning lady didn't go down well!) Sorting out the vets and senior prizes proved a real problem and half way through announcing the ladie's prizes the announcer gave up and said they would 'sort it out later'!! other mistakes were made in the men's results.
they did their best and the weather was kind - but i know some won't come next year if the organisation doesn't improve. Date of review: May 6, 2007
In short: Excellent Race with beautiful Scenery In full: Despite the numerous gripes people have put, the race was only delayed by 10 mins so what's the problem? It was congested at the start but then most 10k's are so I have no issues with the race. Really enjoyed it and broke my PB so it's all good! I'll be back next year! Date of review: May 1, 2007
In short: Good, fast course but could do with being run earlier in the day. In full: This was my first 10K and I really enjoyed it, apart from the 10 minute delay to the start caused by late entries. The course is nice and flat and there was good support all the way around - I ended up with a much better time than I had set out for. The decent t-shirt at the end was a bonus too. In short: Car Parking Organisation a Joke, Finish Line Unclear. In full: Arrived at the park entrance 45 minutes before the start, but ended up nearly missing the start due to the car park queues. Car Park Organisation needs a total re think.
The finish line was totally unclear, I stopped where I thought it was only to be told it was another 30m away!
On the positive side: I would highly recommend this race though, great fast course, fantastic scenary and fantastic venue. Good T-shirt and potential for PB. Possibly should start earlier than midday though (although who could have predicted these April temperatures).
I would recommend this race to anyone/everyone. Date of review: April 30, 2007
In short: why the delay In full: come on i know many people like to entre on the day and the organises arnt going to turn money away but if people cant get there early then tough and why give the bottle of water at the finish would have been better at the water stations (you cant run and drink out of a plastic cup properly ) a good race but needs more organisation ,will be back as its a local run but if nothing improves will give it a miss Date of review: April 29, 2007
In short: The race was fast & fast as promised, but congestion at finish line meant I lost valualbe seconds of my PB time. The water and T-shirt collection point was too close to the finish so runners were queing before they'd even crossed the finish line. In full: I loved the flat course and the location was great. Stayed on for a picnic afterwards and caught a few rays. If start and finsih lines sorted out could be a great race. Also I agree with the comment about t-shirt sizes. I got a medium one for the wife, good job really as she ended up with a "nightie"!! But all said and done will probably do it again. Date of review: April 29, 2007
In short: I enjoyed it In full: Are all runners whingers? This is a 10k race - stop whingeing about the water, it was there 1/2 way round and at the end. The sun was shining - stop whingeing about a 10 minute delay and consider how disappointed you'd be if you were queueing to register and the race started. And now for my whinge - why did i get an XL t-shirt when i'm obviously not an XL person? Because the organisers underestimated the number of smaller than XL people who would enter the race. I know you get all shapes and sizes running, and a good thing that is too, but it should be obvious that a lot of runners tend to the lower end of the BMI scale. This has happened before at this race. Possibly they just repeat the same t-shirt order each year. Shame because it was a nice t-shirt for once.
Enough whingeing. I enjoyed the race and I'm sure lot's of others did. Date of review: April 29, 2007
In short: Great location but organisation could be improved In full: Despite the extortionate parking charge, great location on a sunny spring day for a run. Only one marshall directing traffic? Why the delayed start? Instructions were clear - allow plenty of time for park entry so why inconvinence for the majority? Agree with comments about the start time, should be earlier, but as for water, come on it wasn't that hot, the rules (I think) don't actually require water stations for a 10k anyway. Thanks SAC I enjoyed it. Date of review: April 28, 2007
