In short: Hard course but great atmosphere and really friendly In full: My first half marathon and despite the hills and heat it was a great introduction to the distance. Brilliant organisation and a friendly atmosphere. Lots of support along the way and frequent water stations to keep you going, and a great crowd in the square at the finish to give you a real high! Looking forward to running next year from Holsworthy to Hatherleigh. Date of review: June 22, 2009
In short: At times relentlessly uphill, but great fun nice atmosphere In full: 2009 was the direction Hatherleigh to Holsworthy. According to my Garmin it involved 2000 feet of climbing. The start is almost solid climbing for 5 miles, and there's another long climb between around 8 to 12 miles.
The race has traffic flowing but most drivers were very sensible. One or two idiots e.g. the local soft-top landrover driver who overtook on a blind bend when the car in question was itself passing runners - you know who you are. But those are the only negatives. This is a really nice atmosphere race, with decent prizes and nice T-shirt. Because it follows the main road it doesn't show off the glorious Ruby country at its best: you need to head off left or right from the road for that. But it's still lovely Devon and the people are always so friendly here. Really good Big Band finish and cheering crowds. If you want a low key but challenging half-marathon I definitely recommend it. In short: Great race with changes direction each year 2008 Holsworthy to Hatherleigh , 2009 Hatherleight to Holsworthy In full: Ruby Run is well organized, up hill start, plenty of water stations which are usually needed as it is always HOT!!, Both ways have a hilly finish, Holsworthy has a big mother of a hill at the end but a nice flat 100mtr finish to recover, Goody bags are always good, Great T-Shirt, buses laid on to take you to the start and finish, important if your car is at the start!! As it is a main road run you have to be aware of traffic but it is well marshalled. This is a good run for anyone who wants a challenge. Good Luck Date of review: March 4, 2009
In short: My first run of this race which happened to be in sauna conditions. I was told the Hatherleigh start was the easier option but I doubt it. Nevertheless organisation was excellent throughout and well looked after at the end. Date of review: June 26, 2007
In short: Very well organised point-to-point race which alternates in direction each year. This year was from Hatherleigh to Holsworthy, which seemed the tougher option, or maybe it was just the heat? Date of review: June 11, 2007
In short: Unbeleviable value, brass band at start and finish, complimentary bus, best goody bag ever... In full: Where do I start, for such a small race, the organisers deserve special plaudits. For £8 you get coach to start/finish. Brass Band at start/finish. Eight water stations ( very muched apreciated in todays sun). A shedload of helpfull marshalls. Quality T-shirt, and Asics radio, money/key pouch and water bottle. And excellent PA at finish. Date of review: June 11, 2006
