In short: Lovely experience In full: I am an overweight middle aged lady, slow runner and under-prepared. However when I finished in 2:47, there were other runners around me finishing too, I was never running on my own, and still loads of people around the finish area and plenty of atmosphere still going on. Therefore I recommend it for anyone like me who wants to just get round as a challenge in itself. Very well marshalled, the marshalls cheered me at every marshal point. Friendly people at the finish to feed you with water and chocolate. Excellent experience. Date of review: September 30, 2014
In short: Recommended by a friend and it was very good In full: Fantastic organisation and I thank all volunteers involved. Lovely scenic route with lots of encouragement all the way. The organisers have done a lot of work to make this a traffic free route and there were marshals everywhere helping out and encouraging people on. Great pre-race village on the green at the start with lots of stalls and a happy atmosphere with runners, supporters all enjoying the day.
In short: Glorious country road course which is fantastically organised and marshalled, a really good atmosphere before, during and after. In full: This a race that others should try and emulate. A great local atmosphere from the start to finish. Hassle free parking, loads of friendly marshalls, a beautiful but challenging route finishing back at the village green which had plenty of local cake/tea stalls plus stuff to keep the family entertained whilst the run was on. Good medal and goody bag with proper goodies (not a sachet or Worcester sauce to be seen - take note brighton)all for a very justifiable entry fee. A gem of race. Date of review: September 29, 2014
In short: Scenic, strenuous, superb In full: By far the highlight of my calendar, I love this race, and it didn’t disappoint this year. Marshalled towards ample parking, it’s less than 5 minutes walk down to the green where you’ll find loads going on and the start line.
The route itself takes you along country lanes with a small potion (about half a mile) off road. It’s undulating and taken at steady pace a very scenic route. Put in a bit of effort and you’ll soon discover that it’s not an easy course. With this years unseasonably high temperatures the most common heard phrase at the finish line (once the ability to speak was regained) was ‘That was hell!’
The local community really embrace this event. The Christ’s Hospital School band playing as you pass through the grounds, kids groups coming together to man the water stations and the cake stall is the best on the circuit.
The goody bag was a goody, and all credit to the race organisers there was a lot of liquid available after staggering over the line in the heat. The bling? Square this year, a good lump of metal on a quality ribbon.
If you haven’t done it before, I thoroughly recommend you give the Barns Green Half a go.
In short: Lived up to its reputation In full: I had heard a lot of good things about this race and decided to run it for the first time with some club colleagues. The event lived up to all expectations as a very friendly and extremely well organised race. The course is challenging, made more so by the unseasonal hot weather this year, but is a good mix of challenges for runners of all standards. A highly recommended half marathon. In short: Well organised, friendly, interesting undulating course In full: This was only my second organised half-marathon after doing Croydon in March. I found the unseasonal heat a real problem but enjoyed the variations of the "B" shaped course. Very well organised and perfect for beginners like me. Date of review: September 29, 2014
In short: Greet run In full: Well set up from parking down to running , very hot on the day and bottled water on the run may have helped. Liked the late start as i live fifty miles away. Hope to do it again. Date of review: September 29, 2014
In short: Hot hot hot!! In full: Very well organised race. Shame it was so hot on the day. Course hard but fair. Didn't enjoy the figure of 8 configuration. Question why it starts at 11, would be better with an earlier start Date of review: September 28, 2014
In short: great event In full: weather was against us today as it was very hot. The course was tough but fair and the scenery and support superb. Although my time was off target and I struggled in the heat I am glad I did this one. The organisation was very impressive and the marshals were great Date of review: September 28, 2014
