In short: Excellent but tough short race, as it says on the tin the hills just keep coming. Geat atmosphere at the Highland gathering with a lap of the show ground to both start and finish with lots of cheering crowds.

In short: Challenging but just part of a great day
In full: This event is part of the Ashbourne Highland Gathering. Smallish field of all ages and abilities. Three or four steep climbs, varied terrain including woodland.

In short: a bit different from the normal 10k tarmac plod.
In full: i entered with some reservations about the hill aspect, but convinced myself 4.5 miles couldnt be that hard- how wrong i was. the race starts and finishes in the showground arena in front of literally hundreds of the paying festival public, making you feel like youre at the olympics. at the top of the first climb, which is so steep everybody walks up it (and theres 2 more like it) i was thinking NEVER AGAIN. The hills were bad, plus it was one of the hottest days of summer and the terrain under foot was uneven to say the least. HOWEVER you do get a warm glow and sense of achievement when you enter the arena and cross the finish line to the cheers of all the people that have sat on their arses all day drinking beer. so maybe i will go back next year after all.
